Chandra Astrophysics Command & Control Facility Uses RTS VoIP to Make Contact
Cambridge, MA Chandra Astrophysics Command & Control facility is located in the heart of Harvard U. and MIT’s technology center. Split in to three sections, the flight control center provides spacecraft attitude control, solar panel alignment for optimum power generation and battery recovery and transmit and receive antenna array alignment. The ground operations section monitors the various earth stations, alignment of the receive and transmit antennas and coordinates with the science section on mission planning. The science section evaluated the raw data received, with remotely located sections at Marshall Space Flight in Huntsville, AL, Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena, CA, Goddard Space Flight in Greenbelt, MD and Wallops Island Chesapeake, VA. The remote locations are connected to the Chandra facility via an 8 channel RVON-I/O panel utilizing a T-1 IP network.
