TV Magic Installs On-Air Radio Broadcast and Production Booth at USC Annenberg School
New Radio Facilities Allow School to Expand Curriculum With Hands-On Production
SAN DIEGO — April 2, 2007 – Broadcast systems integrator TV Magic today announced that it has completed a new radio broadcast and production installation at the University of Southern California‘s Annenberg School for Communication. The hybrid on-air broadcast and production booth designed and built by TV Magic allows the school to extend its hands-on multimedia course offering to include live radio news broadcasts through Annenberg Radio News.
“From the very beginning of my relationship with TV Magic, I was impressed by the care and attention the company‘s engineers dedicated to every project,” said Chuck Boyles, director of multimedia production at the USC Annenberg School for Communication. “In building our new radio booth, they worked very closely with us in a systematic progression that ensured the end product met our functional needs, budget, and mechanical and aesthetic design preferences.”
Installed within the school‘s digital lab, the new radio booth will enable students to create live recordings for webcasting, podcasting, and potentially, on-the-air broadcasting via a local radio station. Programming for Annenberg Radio News is being developed now, with plans to start producing regular news content in the fall. Broadcasts are being designed along the lines of public radio news updates that will address campus-related issues and local news, as well as national and international issues.
The booth is equipped with a CF solid-state digital recorder, Marantz PMD-570 record and playback system, Tascam CD-RW200 CD recorder, Enco Systems NewsBoss digital playback system, ElectroVoice microphones, SoundCraft Series 15S mixing board, and Telos telephone software and hardware. Together, these systems allow students to produce news and talk-show programs with up to two guests. The computer-based recording and playback system allows for media creation in multiple formats, and use of CF and CD storage lessens users‘ reliance on tape cassettes.
“USC has embraced a convergence approach to its journalism curriculum, and the school‘s new radio booth offers students all the tools they need to produce professional-quality radio programming,” said Stephen D. Rosen, TV Magic president. “We hope to extend our relationship with the school as it continues to pursue a comprehensive approach to multimedia communications.”
