Harman Pro Group Audio System Installed At Chicago’s Toyota Park

Roscor Corporation successfully deploys Harman Pro Group System featuring components from Crown International and JBL Professional to support sound business model of MLS team Chicago Fire.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, March 15, 2007 — Demonstrating its ability to provide highly versatile and robust audio technologies that perform consistently and reliably in even the harshest environments, Harman Pro Group announced that Roscor Corporation, Mount Prospect, Illinois had installed a versatile and robust audio system at Chicago‘s new Toyota Park comprising components from JBL Professional and Crown International. Home to the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer (MLS), the new 20,000-seat stadium also features a permanent concert stage at one end and was designed to host a variety of sports and entertainment events. This reflects a concerted effort by the MLS to include pre-game, halftime and post-game entertainment and so evolve from a 90-minute sports event to an entertainment experience the entire family can enjoy.

The system was designed and installed by Roscor Corporation, spearheaded by the Roscor systems integration group. In addition to the complete audio system, Roscor also installed the complete video replay and broadcast cabling system at Toyota Park.

As such, the sound system design features a higher level of versatility than would typically be required for a stadium application. The main sound reinforcement system comprises 35 Crown K2 amplifiers enclosed in weather-tight enclosures mounted on the catwalks at 20 cluster locations around the stadium. Combined, the clusters feature 52 JBL AM6212/95 loudspeakers, two JBL PD743‘s for the end caps, eight JBL 5322/95 and two JBL PD5200/64. Beyond the main sound reinforcement system is the main entrance announcement system built on four JBL 6112/95 and four JBL Control 25T loudspeakers.

According to Tom Voigts, Vice President, Sales, Roscor Corporation, the performance, ease of integration and weather-hardiness of the Harman Pro Group components from JBL Professional and Crown International significantly aided his team in the successful design and installation. “Because the system was exposed to the elements, the system had to be robust and reliable while providing the high level of performance needed in this kind of venue.” Voigts noted. “The Harman Pro products provided that, and with the great planning and coordination between the Harman and Roscor staffs, the installation went very well.”

JBL loudspeakers were chosen both because of their performance and also their ability to be completely weatherproofed, as they hang outside in the elements year round. “The speakers had to hang below a catwalk, some 50 feet above the seats,” Voigts continued. “The easy mounting of JBL loudspeakers made a big difference to the efficiency with which we were able to operate.”
