A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

System installed by Sound Solutions at Philadelphia‘s historic former Bookbinder‘s Seafood House features JBL Control 24CT loudspeakers and Control 19CST subwoofers with Crown CTS amplifiers and provides restaurant chain with hi-fi sound that customers have come to expect;

“The quality construction and consistent performance of JBL‘s Contractor Control Series is ideally suited to meet the demands of the hospitality industry,” explains Greg Chatas, President of Sound Solutions. “This allows us to provide standardized quality in all of the Applebee‘s that we service.”

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, May 8, 2007 — In an example of how standardized sound systems featuring components from the Harman Pro Group can provide contractors with the recipe for commercial success in the restaurant and hospitality market, Greg Chatas, President of Sound Solutions in Mt. Laurel, NJ, uses JBL Contractor Control® Series loudspeakers and Crown CTS series amplifiers to service Applebee‘s Neighborhood Bar & Grill. JBL Professional and Crown International are both member companies of the Harman Pro Group which also provides sound systems for the world‘s most prestigious recording studios and performing arts centers, rock and roll tours and even sports stadiums, movie theaters, theme parks, schools and houses of worship.

With the increasingly wide deployment of high-fidelity sound in homes, cars, cinemas and personal audio, customer expectations of high quality sound have risen dramatically. This movement enables quality retailers and restaurants to differentiate themselves more effectively by use of advanced atmospherics that include specialized content to match the brand position of the business and reliable, intelligible sound systems. Research has shown that the maximum price restaurant patrons were prepared to spend in restaurants with no music rose nearly 15% when Easy-Listening music was played, but more than 27% more when the music selection was Jazz*.

In Center City Philadelphia, the new Applebee‘s flagship restaurant is the result of a $3M renovation of the historic Bookbinder‘s Seafood House on 15th Street. At one time, Bookbinder’s was one of Philadelphia’s best-known restaurants, but closed in 2003.

Chatas and his team design and install sound and video systems for Applebee‘s franchisees in eight states. Their goal is to provide reliable, high quality sound that features separately managed zones for the lobby, bar, seating area and bathrooms. Specialized content is programmed to play at different times of day to enhance the atmospherics at various mealtimes and busy periods.

“Music content, level and intelligibility represent a critical component of the dining experience,” Chatas explained. JBL and Crown components enable me to provide my clients with a very strong service that supports their business objectives.”

JBL Contractor Control Series includes a complete range of surface-mount, in-ceiling and subwoofer installation loudspeakers, providing a wide variety of choices to meet any architectural, aesthetic and system performance requirements.

“Well-designed sound systems coupled with the right content can provide a restaurant with the atmospherics that can define customer experience,” explains Rick Kamlet, Director of Commercial Sound, JBL Professional. “The service that Greg Chatas is providing Applebee‘s and his other national accounts is more a function of marketing than operations. We are very pleased to support Greg‘s business with Harman components that are designed specifically for the restaurant and retail environment.”
