Roll Britannia: Soundcraft And HPro Hop On The BritBus

Latest ‘British Invasion’ features GB2 console, GigRac 600, and numerous sibling Harman Pro Group company products

NORTHRIDGE, California – June 2007 — The unusual spectacle of a vintage, bright red, British double-decker bus and convoy of Land Rovers slowly making their way across the country has been turning heads recently. BBC America’s BritBus Tour, which continues through late-June, is trekking across the US promoting the best of British music, television and culture with the help of three emerging music artists and the backing of numerous UK manufacturers, including Soundcraft.

BritBus Tour audio partner Harman Pro Group provided portable PA equipment from not only Soundcraft but also AKG, dbx, DigiTech, JBL, and Lexicon as well to support the musical portion of the cross-country jaunt, comprising up-and-coming four-piece English rock band The Crave, five-piece Scottish pop-rock band Jyrojets, and Welsh-born singer-songwriter and tour founder Julia Jones.

“This is the third year The BritBus Tour has crossed America and the second year we have had the support of Soundcraft,” notes Jones. “Pulling up in our old British double-decker–affectionately known as ‘The Duchess’–always draws a crowd, but this year we have sounded amazing, too. Big love to Harman Pro for helping us to develop this unusual touring event bringing the latest UK rock bands to audiences across the USA.”

The journey began on April 24 in San Francisco before winding its way through the Southeast and Midwest states to the East Coast, where it ends in New York City in late June. Each of the 15 lengthy stops on the tour schedule includes performances by the artists at a variety of indoor venues as well as special outdoor events and in-store shows at Virgin Megastores.

Making sure that the BritBus Tour is prepared for venues of any size, from the smallest pub through larger music clubs and outdoor public locations, the Harman Pro Group supplied a 16-channel Soundcraft GB2 mixing console, together with a GigRac 600 mixer-amplifier–custom finished with an eye-catching Union Jack front cover–for smaller shows. JBL MRX515 two-way and MRX518 subwoofer speakers provide main PA vocal and instrument reinforcement with JRX112M wedge monitors for the musicians, all powered by Crown XTi 4000 and XLS 802 amplifiers.

Available microphones include AKG C4500, D5, D112, C451 and C518M models. Processing comprises dbx DriveRack PA and Lexicon MX300 units for the main system plus DigiTech foot pedals for onstage instrument use.

The big red bus–top speed 45 mph, downhill–has been outfitted with plasma screens, quality audio equipment, and a bar so that invited visitors may catch sneak previews of BBC America’s summer schedule. The BritBus Tour also features an exhibit of photographs by Mick Rock of iconic British music artists as well as other British-themed cultural and product displays, plus competitions to win a Triumph Bonneville motorcycle or Gibson guitar.
