INDUSTRY VETERAN RICHARD STEELE JOINS THE TANNOY TEAM

Loudspeaker specialist, Tannoy North America, has recently hired Richard Steele to take on the position of National Consultant Manager for the Kitchener-based company‘s Commercial product sector.

“This new position within Tannoy North America was created to better serve the specific needs of our consultant base. We have very strong relationships and the addition of Richard will contribute to continued progress,” said Marc Bertrand, Tannoy North America‘s Managing Director. He continues, “I believe this new position will strengthen the entire Tannoy team and further solidify Tannoy‘s prominence as the leading premium loudspeaker brand in commercial audio and high end sound reinforcement.”

Richard‘s extensive career in the audio industry began when Richard followed his passion for music and answered a newspaper ad for Strait Music Company in Austin, Texas. He quickly embraced the live music scene that rocked Austin, selling guitars and PA‘s to bands and clubs and often mixing front of house. Almost every day was an exciting opportunity to work with artists that included Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Jeff Walker, Eric Johnson and Jimmie Vaughan. It was during this period that he discovered there was an entirely new market for installations when churches began to seek him out to spec and install better PA systems for their congregations.

After twelve years at Strait Music, Richard went to work for Blackstone Audio Video. In 1987 Blackstone A/V became High End Systems, where Richard was one of the first High End employees and went on to become both a National and International Regional Sales Manager. As Western U.S. Regional Sales manager he worked on projects with Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Studios, and production companies on tours that included David Bowie, AC/DC, Guns n‘ Roses, Van Halen, U2, Metallica, Prince, Bon Jovi, Walt Disney on Ice, and the Olympic Champions on Ice, among many others. He also worked on architectural projects in Las Vegas including the MGM EFX Theater, the original Cirque du Soleil Mystere Show, the Stratosphere Tower, and the Las Vegas City Walk. As an International Regional Sales Manager he helped develop markets in Canada, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

In 1999 Richard joined JMS Marketing to help create the JMS Marketing Contractor Division. For the last eight years his primary focus has been to work with consultants and contractors on local and national projects involving upper end audio and lighting. The projects he has worked on include casinos, hotels, stadiums, churches, museums, performing arts centers, government and educational institutions. “As the installation market has grown and diversified, so have the challenges. Tannoy has always responded with innovative, great sounding products of uncompromised quality and value. Their approach has been to provide a complete solution to the needs and demands of consultants and contractors. Tannoy is an exceptional product line poised for expansion to meet the needs of the industry and I am excited to now be a part of that team” Richard said.

Bertrand added “Richard‘s diverse background in retail sales, installations, live production, manufacturing and as an independent manufacturer‘s representative has prepared him well for the challenges ahead. He has successfully interfaced and forged relationships with architects, designers, engineers, consultants, contractors and end users throughout his career that will definitely aid in growing Tannoy‘s business. We look forward to him joining our team at this year‘s InfoComm show.”
