The thousands of revellers who flock to downtown Minneapolis every weekend have very high expectations when it comes to entertainment. Whatever the venue, the sound and lighting needs to be impressive to keep the crowds coming back for more, and competition is high. That‘s why a rapidly growing number of top downtown nightspots have new Electro-Voice sound systems that blur the line between “bar” and “club.” Here are a couple of examples of what’s happening on EV’s home turf–more coming soon!

Sneaky Pete’s (1st Av & 5th St)

Sneaky Pete‘s is a brand new bar with a stunning QRx, ZX1i and Sb122 install that looks great and sounds even better. Like Drink a couple of doors down, the EV sound system at Sneaky Pete‘s accommodates the need for high quality background music AND club-level SPLs for DJ sets and live band performances later on in the evening. A no-expense-spared distribution of surface-mounted ZX1i boxes (with Sb122 sub reinforcement) accompany numerous plasma screen monitors throughout the bar, covering every square inch with impeccable audio and video. Assorted QRx boxes cover the dance floor and live stage. Power is via EV P-Series amps located on the lower level.

Drink (1st Av & 5th St)
System design/install: Doug Suiter, Metro Sound & Lighting St. Paul

Drink originally featured a large audio install with equipment from another top pro audio manufacturer. That system didn‘t make the grade, and was quickly replaced: now a proliferation of white Electro-Voice QRx, ZX1i and Sb122 boxes ensure the club, which boasts a brand new live stage, is packed every weekend.

Other recent EV installs of note in downtown Mpls include Bootleggers and Axis, both on busy 1st Av. Both feature QRx systems to deliver the full-bore club experience in a compact package.
