CMS Awarded ARCHI-TECH Grand Prize for Project of the Year

New York, NY – June 19, 2007 — CMS Innovative Consultants announced today that it has been awarded ARCHI-TECH Magazine‘s 2007 Grand Prize for Project of the Year for its audiovisual design throughout the new Hearst Corporation headquarters in Manhattan. The award honors the outstanding example of the creative and effective integration of technology into an otherwise traditional construction project. It was presented at the annual gathering of AV industry members at InfoComm 2007‘s awards ceremony on June 18th in Anaheim, California.

“We feel privileged to be recognized a second time by ARCHI-TECH Magazine for our AV design expertise,” stated Michael A. Schuch, principal of CMS and head of the Hearst project team. “This distinction reaffirms the success of our company‘s commitment to producing audiovisual applications that are technologically innovative, creative and customized to the client‘s particular requirements.” CMS provided sophisticated audiovisual solutions for a wide variety of facilities in the publishing giant‘s dramatic 42-story tower, including multiple videoconference rooms, boardrooms, training rooms, office and support areas, a conference center, the Good Housekeeping Institute, executive offices, dining rooms and the 3rd floor Media Kiosk Wall.

“CMS is pleased to have been part of the dynamic team that created this spectacular architectural achievement for Hearst,” said Schuch.

The uniqueness of the project derives from the fact that the tower was built above the original 6-story landmark building at Eighth Avenue and 57th Street. Hearst’s headquarters building was originally constructed to accommodate additional floors, but the Depression intervened with the intended size of the building. Lord Norman Foster of architects Foster and Partners designed the glass and steel extension. CMS coordinated its efforts with Foster and Partners as well as with the interior architect, Gensler, construction manager Turner Construction and development manager Tishman Speyer.

In 2003, the inaugural ARCHI-TECH Magazine awards year, CMS achieved the “Best Overall 2003″ designation, acknowledging its exceptional AV designs for the headquarters of Gannett/USA Today in McLean, Virginia. The scope of that project encompassed over 100 rooms in two towers, creating a special challenge of both magnitude and configuration. CMS worked closely with the client and project team, especially interior architect Lehman-Smith + McLeish of Washington, DC, to elevate both the number of AV facilities and the level of technology, while also allowing for considerable future expansion.
