Kramer Introduces FC-5 Protocol Translator and Controller

Kramer Electronics USA is pleased to announce the introduction of the FC-5 Protocol Translator and Controller. The FC-5 is a protocol translator designed to make an RS-232 controlled machine (Kramer and non-Kramer products) compatible with other RS-232 based protocols. This unique, compact Kramer TOOL™ allows Kramer products to be very easily incorporated into broader systems employing components from various manufacturers. Because the FC-5 will work with any RS-232 controllable product and can convert RS-232 commands to contact closure and relay control signals, it will also make system integration of various components such as screens and drapes easier.

The FC-5 comes pre-configured with two serial translation tables; a generic serial switcher control protocol to Kramer‘s Protocol 2000 and the Sierra Video Systems‘ serial protocol to Kramer‘s Protocol 2000. An easy-to-use PC based software program is included that will allow the building of translation tables for the FC-5. The FC-5 can be programmed to work with up to 4 translation tables, each with up to 256 commands. Translation tables can be chosen via convenient dip switches on the bottom of the unit.

The FC-5 can be used as a programmable controller. It incorporates two RS-232 COM ports and features two relay connections for the simplified and centralized control of room functions such as lighting, drapes and screens. The unit also has 11 remote contact closure pins to trigger RS-232 commands and/or control the relays.

“With the FC-5, our Kramer and Sierra products, as well as any manufacturer‘s product that is controllable via RS-232 control, can be conveniently controlled with any serial protocol a dealer or end user wants to utilize,” said Chris Kopin, vice president of Product Development for Kramer Electronics USA.

The FC-5 is currently in stock and available from Kramer Electronics USA at a list price of $495. Complete product information can be found at www.kramerus.com.
