Shure Applauds Growing Bipartisan Support For Legislation To Protect Wireless Microphone Systems From Interference

NILES, IL– Sandy LaMantia, President and CEO of Shure Incorporated, praised several legislators who are supporting H.R. 1320, The Interference Protection for Existing Television Band Devices Act of 2007.

The bill, introduced by Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-IL), seeks to protect users of wireless microphone systems and other devices that transmit in the television band from harmful interference from new devices. Representatives Mark Steven Kirk (R-IL), Shelley Berkley (D-NV), Jim Cooper (D-TN), Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL), and Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) have pledged their support for the bill.

The legislation requires manufacturers of new unlicensed devices to demonstrate that they do not cause harmful interference to existing products that utilize the so-called “white spaces” in the television band. The FCC would only certify new devices after engineering analysis and testing to assure non-interference with existing users.

“We‘re especially pleased to see that the bill is generating bipartisan momentum,” concluded LaMantia, “because it reflects Shure‘s belief that interference protection is not a Republican or a Democratic issue. It is, rather, an issue that preserves quality live entertainment, religious, sports, and news productions on behalf of the American public.”
