Rent-A-Amp Supports World Class Singers With JBL VerTec Line Arrays At Plymouth Jazz Fest
NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, August 15, 2007 — In a high-profile tropical event highlighting the widespread acceptance by international touring artists of JBL Professional VERTEC® line arrays, sound reinforcement company Rent-A-Amp recently provided the live audio system for the Plymouth Jazz Festival, held on the Caribbean island of Tobago. The three-day festival featured numerous world-class acts, including Elton John, Al Green, Earth Wind & Fire, Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J and Diana Ross.
Now in its third year, the Plymouth Jazz Festival brings together legendary performers from around the globe for a unique concert setting. The Festival grounds are located on the coast of Tobago, with the island paradise providing a scenic backdrop to accompany the talent on stage. With a 5,000-person audience extending to 300 feet from the stage, providing even coverage with high fidelity throughout the seating area was a significant challenge.
To overcome these obstacles, Rent-A-Amp deployed a JBL VERTEC system with 16 VT4889 large-format line array elements and 16 VT4880 arrayable subwoofers arranged on each side of the stage, for 64 VERTEC loudspeakers in total. Crown Macro-tech MA5002VZ and XTi amplifiers were used, as well as the new Soundcraft Vi6 mixing console.
According to front of house engineer Frank Agarrat, VERTEC line arrays provided the accuracy and power crucial to the Festival‘s success. “We‘re extremely comfortable with the system and it has proven able to handle any type of music, from calypso to jazz to reggae to rock,” Agarrat said. “With JBL we have been able to get the same amount of output power with half as many VERTEC loudspeakers as it takes when using some other brands. We no longer get any complaints from international acts since we started using the VERTEC system.”
“More than 1,000 JBL VERTEC enclosures are now in use from Trinidad and Tobago to Mexico to Brazil to Argentina,” said Adinaldo Neves, Director of Intercontinental Sales, JBL Professional. “Professional touring sound technicians can find VERTEC in Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Panama and most other parts of the region. Due to excellent sonic performance, rider acceptability and the strongest distribution network in the territory, JBL VERTEC is now the system of choice for some of the most important tour and rental sound companies in Latin America and throughout the Caribbean. Local companies like Rent-A-Amp are now taking responsibility for successful live-sound events like the Plymouth Jazz Festival in Tobago, with confidence.”
