EXTRAORDINARY SOUND FOR NORMAL HIGH SCHOOL
The Electro-Voice Sx600 is unmatched when it comes to stadium sound applications that demand a compact combination of long throw, high intelligibility and rugged reliability. Thompson Electronics Company of Peoria, Illinois, recently used two weatherproof, dual element, vertical line array Sx600PI loudspeakers to solve a sound problem at nearby Normal Community West High School‘s football field (Normal, Ill.).
“The system was a special case due to the extremely high ambient SPL from the I-74 Interstate that passes behind the visitor bleachers, roughly 100 feet away,” says Carl Howell, Audiovisual Design Engineer, Thompson Electronics Company. “Using two pole-mounted Sx600s, we were able to overcome the severe ambient noise levels by about 18dB, with a couple dB of headroom. The coverage and intelligibility are amazing, and the high frequency detail is wonderful. The mounting and aiming was simple and precise as well, using the hardware that comes as part of the Sx600 package. They are truly a great problem solver that helped us to stay under the small budget. And the school is so pleased with the system that they‘ve asked us to design and install an EV system for their soccer field!”
