CR IR-232 Links IR to RS-232
Dallas, TX August 27, 2007 – Contemporary Research introduces the IR-232, a new solution to a common residential integration challenge at the CEDIA Expo 2007. The IR-232 receives most IR commands and allows the integrator to convert them to custom RS-232 commands. Home systems or all-in-one touch panels that only output IR codes can now take control of RS-232 driven components – many displays and projectors only offer discrete operation via RS-232. Homeowners can now use their favorite Tivo remote with AMX and Crestron control systems.
The compact, cost-effective IR converter can be mounted as a swivel-mount IR sensor or receive wired IR commands. A single rear-mounted captive-screw terminal is available for power, IR, and RS-232 cables. IR Commander software, included with the IR-232, manages IR capture, custom control, testing, and files.
States Jim Avetta, CR Tech Sales Director states, “This is a handy solution that‘s easy to use for many home installs, and it‘s serious system technology as well. For example, when someone holds down the volume button, we send only a single command – not an endless stream of code. CR is an integrator-driven company, and paying attention to the small stuff makes a big difference in making things work for the residential dealer.”
