AA Sound delivers with DYNACORD VariLine & PowerH
AA Sound, Inc. (Barberton, Ohio) is putting its extensive inventory of DYNACORD equipment to task this summer, supplying sound reinforcement for large festival events in their region. A new DYNACORD monitor rig featuring the new VariLine loudspeakers powered by a rack of PowerH amplifiers is proving particularly impressive.
Kicking off its third year running on July 19th, the Ingenuity Festival is a four-day celebration of global arts and technology in downtown Cleveland that attracted over 70,000 people this year. Headliners included rap legend Grandmaster Flash. Ingenuity is very much a community-driven event, sponsored by local businesses and with stages donated by six downtown theatres. AA Sound groundstacked a combination of two DYNACORD Cobra-4 compact line array systems for the main stage PA, with Cobra boxes also used for side fills, all powered and processed with presets via dedicated Cobra drive racks.
A stage monitor spread comprised of DYNACORD VariLine VL122 (12-in.) and VL152 (15-in.) loudspeakers was optimized with linear-phase FIR (Finite Impulse Response) factory presets via new RCM-26 modules loaded into four DYNACORD PowerH 5000 amps in the monitor drive rack. Two VariLine VL262 loudspeakers provided an ideal balance of compact footprint, high power handling and full-bandwidth performance as low profile main stage front fills. To complete the DYNACORD list, a D-LITE 2000 powered speaker and sub system handled drum fills. Onstage, a range of EV N/DYM mics ensured high performance at the start of the signal path.
“The Monitor Engineer had just two faders moved on the graphics, and neither was pulled down more than 3dB, tops. Combining the VL boxes and Power-H amps in this monitor rig gives us the state-of-the-art in sound quality, power and processing,” says Will Roth of AA Sound.
The following weekend, AA Sound headed to Clay‘s Park resort in Northeastern Ohio for the four-day Rock ‘N‘ Resort Music Festival. Thousands camped out to hear classic and contemporary rock on three stages, with headliners including The New Rascals, REO Speedwagon, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Cheap Trick and George Thorogood & the Destroyers.
This time flown instead of groundstacked, AA Sound combined two Cobra-4 systems and one Cobra-2 rig to deliver the goods with impeccable coverage, clarity and headroom on the festival‘s main stage, again augmented by VL262 front fills. AA Sound also used their new Klark Teknik Square One Equalizer in their main drive rig, with a Square One Dynamics for processing. A Midas Heritage 3000 handled FOH duties.
The Cobra-2 PWH and VariLine/PowerH monitor rig and a full compliment of EV microphones were deployed for the Stageline SL320 stage. For the small stage, the D-LITE system, with two-way 12-inch main boxes run with the mighty 2000W PowerSub315, raised a few eyebrows with its incredible footprint to horsepower ratio.
