EV POLARCHOICE PODIUM MICS A PROBLEM SOLVER FOR COUNCIL CHAMBERS

Electro-Voice PolarChoice PC Plus multi pattern podium mics and EVID series loudspeakers are making a big difference at the City of Bemidji Council Chambers.

The new system features 14x PolarChoice PC Plus podium microphones, EVID C4.2 recessed ceiling speakers over the inside seating areas, and surface mounted EVID 3.2s for the overflow seating area.

“All eyes–and ears–were on us for this installation,” says Ben Stowe of Northern Light FX Sound & Lighting (Bemidji), as this is our hometown. The customer read about the jobs we have completed around the world, and wanted to see those results brought home. The new EV equipment replaced the last in a list of inadequate and inappropriate systems that had been simply ‘good enough‘ for the chamber‘s sound reinforcement, recording and cable TV broadcast needs.”

These included entry-level vocal music mics mounted on flanges four feet away from the speaker‘s voice, creating serious gain issues, and after that an inadequate amount of highly directional boundary mics that ended up with papers piled on top of them. The sound quality at the council sessions had been a constant source of irritation, so Stowe brought in the right tools for the job.

“The switchable polar pattern was a huge factor in choosing these mics,” Stowe adds. “Not only are there no feedback issues with the larger amount of speakers installed, it also gives the sound operator precise control over gain and feedback when mixing either broadcast or room sound. We wanted the maximum rear rejection available, and PolarChoice fits the bill perfectly. And every component in the system looks good too–this will serve them well for years to come.”
