A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

Midas has again been hitting the great outdoors, providing a huge range of international sound engineers with control surfaces which combine the familiarity of use and reliability that ensure they remain the mainstay of major festivals and summer events.

SSE provided its standard festival package of two Midas Heritage 3000s at front of house and two XL3s on monitors across a wide range of UK festivals, including the main stages at Reading and Leeds, Download, V07, Oxegen, T in The Park, Summer Sundae and Cropredy. In addition, a package of two XL4s at FOH and two XL3s on monitors were used at the Channel 4 (second) stage at both V07 sites, as well as for the second stage at Oxegen, and an XL4 FOH and XL3 on monitors at the T in the Park Slam tent.

Capital Sound had an XL4 FOH and an H3000 on monitors for Stage Three at V2007, and the same setup for Bristol Proms in the Park, the Sony Day Out at Ascot and the Medway Summer Festival at Rochester Castle. Two XL4s and two H3000s were deployed for FOH and monitors respectively at Highclere Castle summer festivals, while a Venice handled the opening acts for the Blickling Hall summer shows. Capital also provided H3000 monitor consoles for the Sziget Festival in Hungary and an XL3 for Stage 4 of V2007.

Skan PA Hire had Midas consoles out across the country throughout the entire summer. Stage Two at Download featured two XL4s FOH and two H3000s on monitors, as did the Other Stage at Glastonbury, while a single XL4/H3000 package was used for the Eden Sessions at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Skan‘s regular clients Muse took their own touring control system of an XL4 FOH for festivals and other concerts including their Wembley appearance, while Brian Wilson and Chemical Brothers have also been carrying an XL4 for FOH, along with an H3000 on monitors for the Chemicals.

Wigwam used two H3000s onstage with two further H3000s FOH at the Isle of Wight festival: there was also a B2000 being used in the outside broadcast truck. Wigwam also had H3000s on the Liverpool Summer Pops festival throughout July.

APR Audio has turned the Jazz World stage into one of the best-sounding and most consistent venues at the Glastonbury Festival, pulling Midas/KT‘s UK distributor Shuttlesound‘s Jason Kelly into their team. The main console FOH was an H3000, with a Venice 160 used as a main control to drive the system, while EQ was provided by Klark Teknik DN370 for grab EQ on the H3000 and DN9344 for the main system. All speakers were run from KT DN9848 digital system controllers, and monitored via KT‘s Elgar control software. Meanwhile a second H3000 was used for monitors.

Canegreen provided H3000s at FOH for stages one and two, plus an XL200 for the club tent, at the Cambridge Folk Festival, while at the Christian Greenbelt festival the company provided an Heritage 3000 at FOH. Canegreen also supplied H3000s at FOH for the Oxford Inspires festival, and for FOH and monitors at the Wychwood Festival and Tower of London Music Festival.

Britannia Row had two H3000s at FOH and monitors respectively for Radio One‘s One Big Weekend, and one of each at either end of the multicore for T on the Fringe; Snowpatrol‘s homecoming concert in Bangor; the 02 Wireless festival and Hyde Park Calling.
