AMX Expands Epica Digital Generation Switcher Line with New HD-SDI Boards
WASHINGTON DC – Nov. 15, 2007 – Today at Government Video Expo, AMX® announced that it has expanded its AutoPatch® fiber optic switcher line – the Epica® Digital Generation (Epica DG) – with the addition of HD-SDI (High Definition Serial Digital Interface) Input and Output Boards. These new boards are significant because they add support for HD-SDI and SD-SDI (Standard Definition Serial Digital Interface) equipment to the Epica DG product line. AMX is demonstrating its new HD-SDI Boards in booth 607 at the show, which is being held Nov. 15 – 16 in Washington DC.
Federal, state and local government, along with private sector organizations, are increasingly adopting fiber optic networks because they provide the most secure communication path. They also allow digital data transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates with no signal degradation. The Epica DG meets the need to distribute highly-sensitive, mission critical information over fiber, while also uniquely integrating signal conversion and routing – all in one switcher.
With the addition of the new HD-SDI Boards, the Epica DG platform can now convert HD-SDI, DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and RGBHV (Red Green Blue Horizontal sync Vertical sync) video signals inside the matrix switcher, allowing any video input to be routed to any combination of display outputs regardless of the signal type. This negates the need for the external video conversion boxes that are required for all other switchers on the market today, which simplifies system design and installation for integrators and reduces the overall cost of the system for users.
“The Epica DG is the only switcher available today that can send high-quality, high-definition video from any source to almost any kind of display,” said Robert Noble, AMX chief technology officer. “With our new HD-SDI Input and Output Boards, tactical operations centers; command and control centers; and national, state and local security facilities will now be able to distribute high-resolution video from HD- and SD-SDI sources like satellites, digital cameras, and computers to any DVI, VGA (Video Graphics Array) or SDI monitor in a truly seamless, totally secure infrastructure.”
The new HD-SDI Boards conform with SMTPE 292M (1.485 Gbit/s), 259M (143/270/360 Mb/s) and 344M (540 Mbit/s) frame rates and clocking speeds to any and or all output signals. Each board contains 16 BNC connections and is fully compatible with the customizable mix-and-match Epica DG enclosure that also includes DVI, MTP Fiber and RGBHV Board options.
Availability
The new Epica DG HD-SDI boards will be available February 2008.
