Vista Systems’ Spyder and Christie HD6K Projectors Team On Videowall At Qwest’s NOC

Qwest
Vista Systems‘ Spyder and four Christie HD6K three-chip DLP® projectors are at the heart of a new videowall at Qwest‘s Network Operations Center (NOC) in Arlington, Virginia. Matrix Display Systems of Boulder, Colorado, which had previously worked on Qwest‘s executive boardroom and corporate auditorium in Denver, Colorado revived the existing 6 x 6 NOC videowall, which had not been used for the past few years.

“There was only 71 inches of depth to the videowall and we wanted to display one big, seamless image,” notes Matt Zavakos, president, Matrix Display Systems. “This was a project that called for a high end processor. Christie recommended the Spyder, and we liked the idea. We took our Qwest clients to Vista Systems‘ in Phoenix for a demo, and after that we were sold on the Spyder.”

Matrix Display Systems redesigned the display to accommodate a Spyder 365 system and four edge-matched Christie HD6K projectors across the span of the wall. A Grass Valley Turbo is employed for HD playback.

“Christie was our first choice as the projector vendor,” says Zavakos. “Christie‘s true HD 1920×1080, 3-chip DLP projectors offer crisp, high definition images coupled with brilliant white light, color matching and balance. With their recent acquisition of Vista Systems, we now have access to all their people. At Matrix, it‘s very important for us to have a good relationship with our vendors as well as our clients.”

The new 2 x 2 NOC videowall displays computer-generated imagery showing different monitoring GPUs on a map of Qwest‘s international network. The content includes a network map where experts can monitor for outages.

A second Spyder system is installed in a briefing room where it‘s paired with a single Christie HD6K projector enabling employees to view the content, or portions of the content, from the videowall outside. A camera mounted in the Network Operations Center also brings a live video feed to the briefing room.
