TEMPE, AZ — As part of an upcoming Laptop Initiative, Holophone‘s H3-D surround microphone has been added to The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences‘ equipment locker. Starting December 14th, each student enrolled in the Conservatory will be given a laptop package including Apple MacBook with Logic Studio, Pro Tools™, M-Powered Academic, an M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface, Sennheiser EH 150 headphones and a Sennheiser 815S-X mic. Now students will be able to take their H3-D recordings and mix it on their laptops in 5.1.

A part of the daily curriculum, the mic is being used during clinics and classes, and is available for students to use on their projects. With the school being open 24 hours a day 350 days a year, it is important that the equipment be able to withstand repeated use in a variety of environments. The H3-D is very robust, built to stand up in the harshest of location recordings while still providing the sonic sensitivity of a studio mic.

Conservatory grads work in every part of the audio industry, and having experience with such great products like the H3-D adds more value to the extensive education they take away from the Conservatory.”

Quickly becoming an industry standard, Holophone‘s line of surround microphone‘s are being used by leading audio engineers to record everything from live concerts, to sporting events, to location recording for film. The functionality and sonic quality of the H3-D also make it great for educational purposes. Users are able to set up the H3-D and instantly capture a spatially accurate surround recording with no mixing or signal manipulation required. Located inside the mic‘s elliptical casing, the H3-D has five mic capsules which match up with the typical speaker setup found in the studio or home theater.

In addition to recording surround, the H3-D also lends itself to be used for stereo recording. For example, it excels as a drum overhead because H3-D can be placed on one stand, while at the same time giving users a number of recording options. The mic can be used as a LR or an LCR overhead and the rear mics can be panned to face the ceiling as room feeds - all from one, easy-to-place unit.
