Sennheiser and Kleer Connect to Debut Wireless Stereo Headphones at CES 2008

LAS VEGAS — January 2008 — It‘s quickly becoming a wireless world, and what better way to enjoy it than with Sennheiser‘s latest must-have product: the MX W1 wireless stereo headphones. The portable MX W1 blends Sennheiser‘s renowned audio technology and innovative design with the wireless transmission expertise of Kleer™ for rich sound without bounds.

Earphones free of annoying cables have been high up the wish list of technology-minded music fans for some time. Finally, users mustn‘t literally be tied down to their MP3 players; now there‘s wireless transmission technology that transmits tunes without compression and therefore without loss of audio quality.

“In Kleer™ we‘ve found the ideal technology partner for our MX W1 wireless earphones”, explains Stijn Jans, Managing Director of Sennheiser Consumer Electronics GmbH, Singapore branch. “Kleer‘s digital radio transmission technology produces excellent sound quality, which means that for the first time we are in a position to offer our customers wireless earphones without compromising our special Sennheiser sound.”

The MX W1 combines the new transmission technology with high-quality dynamic systems and Sennheiser‘s exclusive twist-to-fit design, which keeps earphones securely and comfortably in the ear. Two trendy ear pieces and a tiny transmitter allow you to enjoy music anywhere, and ship with a transport and charging case for when you‘re out and about.

Revolutionary wireless transmission
“The transmitter is only the size of a matchbox and transmits CD quality music”, says Bill Whearty, vice president of sales and marketing for Sennheiser‘s consumer electronic division in the U.S., explaining the system‘s advantages. “The plug and play transmitter makes conventional audio equipment instantly compatible with the MXW1 earphones. However, this detour will soon no longer be necessary, because Kleer products are fully compatible with one another. For example, an MP3 player with Kleer technology can transmit straight to our earphones.

“With Kleer, the audio signal‘s latency is very low and transmission extremely interference-free,” continues Whearty. “These advantages all mean that battery life is considerably longer than you would get with conventional transmission standards.” As if long battery life was not enough, the MX W1 carrying case doubles as a charger for the earphones and transmitter, allowing the user to replenish the devices up to three times without ever plugging it in.
Furthermore, you can now share your favorite music for the first time, thanks to Kleer: this technology allows you not just to have two completely separate earphones, but to link a second set of earphones to the transmitter- providing two users (four ears) with crystal-clear audio in perfect time and phase.

Acoustic expertise
As well as using outstanding transmission technology, Sennheiser has set the standard for the excellent acoustics. Newly developed transducers — manufactured in Sennheiser‘s competence center in Ireland — reproduce detailed sound and well-defined bass.

“For over 60 years, Sennheiser has been at the forefront of its industry,” said Levent Gun, President and CEO of Kleer. “As the first OEM to bring to market true wireless, CD-quality stereo earphones, the company is demonstrating once again why Sennheiser is heralded world-wide as a visionary and an expert in delivering high-quality acoustics products. We‘re proud to provide Sennheiser with the enabling technology to deliver this much-awaited product to earphone consumers world-wide.”

The MX W1 will be available in the U.S. approximately May 2008.
