Bright House Networks Tampa Division select Vela’s MediaAdvantage for Tapeless Delivery

Vela, the Emmy award-winning provider of video compression products for the cable and broadcast industries, announces that Bright House Networks has selected Vela‘s Media Advantage system for their Tapeless Delivery System.

“We chose to look into a tapeless delivery system because we wanted to find an efficient, inexpensive solution to allow for digital delivery of our commercials that also allowed for us to have control over commercial quality,” said Richard Wilkins, Technical Manager of Bright House Networks Tampa Bay Division. Vela‘s fourteen year history as a leader in MPEG video decoding and encoding technology was only one of the reasons why it was chosen to help make Bright House Networks Tapeless Deliver Project a reality. “We chose Vela‘s Media Advantage solution because of their history in the industry and ingenuity.”

Bright House Networks will be using the Media Advantage system in order to receive video files electronically from all six of their production offices located in the Tampa Bay Division as well as from local client production houses and external offices. Before implementing a “true” tapeless delivery system, Bright House “was paying couriers to deliver beta tapes between our different locations and incurring not only cost, but time delays to get the delivery” stated Randy Van Patten, Creative Services Manager for Bright House. By using Vela‘s MediaAdvantage system Bright House is now able to improve their efficiency and reduce their costs with regards to the delivery of their commercials.

Bright House Networks‘ tapeless delivery project is built around Vela‘s well-established media server, MediaAdvantageTM 2000. The system includes ready-to-use software applications featuring an intuitive, user-friendly GUI allowing for complete control of the MediaAdvantage server. Using the integrated CommandAdvantageTM module, Bright House Networks has flexibility and easy operating control of the server providing interoperability with external devices via Sony BVW machine control and VDCP commands. Bright House opted for Vela‘s Cineview Pro XLe professional PCI MPEG-2 decoder based on advanced decoding technology. The Cineview Pro XLe decoder supports advanced features such as superior digital video quality, 4 ch. embedded audio, and inoperability through VDCP with their system architecture.

Vela‘s MediaAdvantage 2000 system symbolizes the ultimate in versatility. Designed for professional applications requiring standard or high definition, single-channel or multi-channel decoding or simultaneous multi-stream encoding and transcoding. This highly adaptable system enables for a variety of encoding and decoding options, making it today‘s answer to the multi-function, multi-format decoding and encoding requirements most often sought in video and media servers.
