HIGHLINE BALLROOM OPENS IN NEW YORK‘S TRENDY MEATPACKING DISTRICT WITH YAMAHA CONSOLES
–Most Commonly Requested by Touring Artists, Yamaha Consoles Are Installed–
BUENA PARK, Calif.–High Line Park, created at the site of an abandoned elevated rail line high above and just west of the Chelsea district in lower Manhattan, has been referred to by a local New York Magazine reporter as “an urban fairy tale,” a “flying carpet,” “our generation‘s Central Park,” something akin to “Alice in Wonderland … look through the keyhole and you‘re in a magical place.” The very green park is a mile and three-quarters long, over six and one-half square acres and sits 30 feet above the streets of New York City.
HighLine Ballroom, which was named as a tribute to High Line Park, is a new performance space located in the same trendy meat packing district as the park. Opened in late April with a performance by Lou Read, the club has since seen live performances by Paul McCartney, Carlos Santana, Amy Winehouse, Mos Def, and James Blunt, to name a few. The club features a minimal industrial décor in order to provide open sightlines of the stage from every area of the club. Outfitted with a state-of-the-art sound system, the HighLine Ballroom features a Yamaha PM5D-RH console at front of house and a Yamaha M7CL console at the monitor position.
“When determining what would be required for the new installation, the owner of the HighLine Ballroom advised that the booking plan would include a versatile artist spectrum from a wide range of music genres,” states Amit Peleg, President of Peltrix who is responsible for consulting, design and installation at the HighLine. “The Yamaha PM5D-RH was a natural choice for front of house console as it is a commonly requested board used by touring artists from all genres and a sure bet to please most of the acts that perform at the HighLine.”
“The Yamaha M7CL was chosen for monitors because it‘s easy to get visiting engineers who are not familiar with digital consoles up and running,” says Peleg. “With the addition of YGDAI expansion cards, the console fulfills the monitor mix needs of both venues very well.”.”
Outboard gear at front of house at the HighLine Ballroom includes a Tascam DV-RA1000 and a dbx Driverack 4800 (an additional Driverack 4800 positioned with the M7CL provides extra monitor EQs). Front of house, monitors and balcony delayed speakers are by JBL, and the microphone arsenal consists of AKG, Shure, Sennheiser, and Crown.
Peltrix is also responsible for upgrading B.B. King‘s Blues Club in New York City with two Yamaha M7CL consoles, one for house and one for monitors.
