Blue Man Group Gives Kudos To Stage Research’s SFX For Shows Around The World

bmgStage Research, Inc., the developer of audio, sound design and lighting software, is pleased to announce that its SFX software, for creating reliable and enriched soundscapes, is being used by the innovative BLUE MAN GROUP in its shows in Las Vegas, Orlando, Berlin, Oberhausen, Tokyo and Stuttgart.

The BLUE MAN GROUP‘s production team taps SFX for multitrack music and audio playback and sound effects during their sell-out shows. “It‘s been great,” reports Matt Koenig, sound supervisor for BLUE MAN Productions. “SFX was easy to get going and manage, and it‘s easy to make changes with the software — something we do frequently during the tech process. SFX gives us the flexibility to set up screens, pages, playlists and cue lists and revise them quickly and easily.”

Mark Norfolk, theatrical rental group manager at Specialized Audio Visual, Inc. (SAVI), recommended SFX to BLUE MAN GROUP, which was looking for a change from hard-disk multitrack playback. SFX runs on two PCs. SAVI customized the deployment of SFX for the production so all the ‘go‘ buttons are built into the palm rest of the custom console; SAVI also helped the BLUE MAN team write the spec to their design needs.

“I‘ve been using SFX on my tours for years,” Norfolk notes. “It‘s rock solid.” SAVI recently used SFX on the “Cats” national tour and on dancer Chita Rivera‘s tour; earlier it selected SFX for “The Sound of Music” Asian tour and the national tours of “Evita” and “Starlight Express.”

“SFX does everything we need it to do — there‘s no comparison to competitors‘ products,” says Koenig. “Support from Stage Research has been great, too. We fully plan on continuing to use SFX.”

Assisting SAVI‘s Mark Norfolk on the project was Jeff Svatek.

About SFX
SFX is found at all levels of theater from academics to the pros. Professional theaters use the software to create reliable and enriched soundscapes and has been employed in many award-winning shows, including several Tony Award winners. The academic stage (elementary education through college) and amateur theater appreciate SFX for the high quality of shows it can create and because it can be easily run by novice operators. Students using SFX get the added benefit of learning the software they will most likely work with when they enter the theatrical job market.
