EV SX600 SCORES AT MUSCLE SHOALS HIGH SCHOOL

When it comes to stadium sound, the Electro-Voice Sx600 has it all: weatherproof durability, single enclosure, dual element line array power handling, concert-quality sonic performance, and custom-designed rigging hardware for simple, precise mounting.

Icon Entertainment, Inc., of North Alabama, are the latest company with an Sx600 success story to share, having recently installed six of the loudspeakers at Muscle Shoals High School football field in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. A total of six Sx600 loudspeakers cover the home side bleachers: a central cluster of two, flanked on either side by two additional boxes. Used primarily for paging and playback, the system is powered by EV two CP4000S amplifiers. In addition, the system features an Sx300 full-range and Sb122 low end fills fill powered by a CP2200 amplifier.

“This was a typical high school sound system renovation,” says Seth Daniel of Icon, “which involved switching out old paging horns with loudspeakers that could deliver a higher degree of intelligibility, coverage, and power. First and foremost, we felt that the Sx600 offered great bang for the buck, and, when we suggested them on the original bid, the client agreed that the boxes had the specs on paper to back it up–including the military specs on the weatherproofing. But they really proved themselves when we fired them up; they sold themselves with their sound quality.”

The school demo‘d a couple of other systems at ballgames before deciding on the EV system; they told Daniel they couldn‘t believe the difference: “The Sx600 delivered far superior sound quality overall, hands-down,” he adds, “the speakers sound as clear on the visitor‘s side as on the home side, which was an initial concern. The first time we fired them up, we were blown away. This is great, because it kept us within budget without compromising sound quality on any seat. I tuned the boxes like I would tune a line array, and it sounded so crisp and clean, so smooth. The rigging hardware is simple, which saved us a lot of time and labor. We were actually about a day ahead of our schedule, as far as getting the boxes up in the air goes.”

“During the walkthrough, when were playing some music through the system, the Technical Director from the school came over and told me he couldn‘t believe how good the PA sounds, especially considering the price. The Sx600 proved itself above and beyond our recommendation, which is why we‘ll be using it again and again for applications like this.”
