A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

PHOENIX RISING IN CORPORATE REALM

Engineered Audio Rentals is using a winning combination of the latest high-performance, compact sound solutions from Electro-Voice to address the most demanding corporate applications. Through years of supporting a variety of staged events, EAR recognizes the many benefits of the consolidated tool base offered by the EV product line. Built around EV‘s versatile Phoenix PX1122M and PX1152M two-way loudspeakers and Tour Grade TG-7 microprocessor-controlled, class-H amplifiers running IRIS-Net software, EAR‘s latest system designs are as streamlined as they are powerful.

“We recently provided sound reinforcement for a major US-based agribusiness company‘s worldwide town hall meeting, held in the large auditorium at their headquarters in Decatur, Ill.,” reports Benny Oldenburg of EAR. “Various executives presented on lavalier mics, including the CEO, so impeccable vocal reproduction, as always, was critical. Complete audio coverage was needed for the ‘in the round‘ audience, bearing in mind they would be participating in an inbound and outbound Q&A discussion translated into eight languages. Basically, the sound quality needed to be consistent with the tone and content of the event.”

Engineered Audio Rentals deployed a combined total of 22 Phoenix PX1122M and PX1152M boxes: “The room was arranged ‘in the round,‘ and we used the PX1152M boxes for the main PA, flown on the circular lighting truss overhead,” says Oldenburg. “The strong-arm rigging hardware made it simple to hide the boxes discreetly overhead, creating a nice ‘heard but not seen‘ effect. The runway stage for the presenters jutted out underneath this main truss, with audience members seated around: the PX1152Ms covered this entire area. PX1122Ms were used as fills along the venue‘s side balconies (4), and in the back corners on the main floor (2). PX1122Ms were also as front fills around the front of the stage (4). XLC215 subs reinforced the low end. The combination of power, rigging flexibility, and precise aiming made Phoenix really impressive in this application.”

With the speakers in position, Engineered Audio Rentals‘ TG amps, running IRIS-Net via RCM-26 modules, brought an equally high level of control and detail to the event. “IRIS-Net allows me to control the zones far more effectively and far more easily, all from a remote position, and features like real-time load sensing give us that assurance that we‘re firing on all cylinders,” adds Oldenburg. “Being able to make adjustments, changing delay time, etc., and monitor system performance on a single backbone is a tremendous help. There‘s no need to integrate another network, and that‘s where the system really shines. Plus, above all, the TG amps simply sound exceptional.”

“The gain we were able to obtain out of the lavalier mics in a large venue like this enabled us to localize the sound and get nice even coverage throughout the venue,” continues Oldenburg. “The customer was delighted; the overall effect was seamless, warm sound, with no spikes or hints of feedback. I had all the gain in the world, and the presenters could feel they were being heard, which made them comfortable. The presentations were transmitted in the best way possible, and that‘s why we‘ll be working with this system with this and other clients for future events.”
