The UK-based custom shop relies on a wide variety of Middle Atlantic solutions for installations in residential and commercial spaces.
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS, 29 January 2008 – In conversation, Steve Martin is a very direct man. He has to be. You can‘t beat around the bush in the Audio/Video installation industry and expect to be successful.
Martin is the Cofounder and Managing Director of Martin-Kleiser Ltd., a 14-employee custom shop that focuses on specialized sound, lighting, and communication system installs for residences and commercial spaces. Martin runs the company with Cofounder and Commercial Director Tony Kleiser. Projects Director Marcus Jackson-Baker leads the design team. Each year the London-based company completes anywhere between 30 and 40 projects of dramatically varying sizes, ranging from around Ł9,700 to over Ł430,000.
Martin has been in the Audio/Visual installation field for over 25 years, 15 of those in custom installation. Additionally, he serves as Vice Chair and Education Chair of CEDIA UK. This is a man who knows his industry and he‘s been using Middle Atlantic Products‘ racks from the very beginning, primarily for home installations.
When asked what he looks for in a rack system, in his direct manner Martin will tell you simply: “a bloody good one.” However, he‘s happy to elaborate:
“Long-term reliability is impossible to guarantee without a good rack system. We wouldn‘t even consider starting a project that didn‘t include a rack, it just wouldn‘t make sense. Middle Atlantic Products‘ racks are extremely reliable. They‘re easy to install and we never find any rejection of components.”
A good rack is central to any Martin-Kleiser install. Their designers will start with the rack system, like a DWR Sectional Wall Mount Rack, and design the custom panels around it. Martin-Kleiser uses a wide variety of Middle Atlantic Products‘ racks and accessories, including ERK stand-alone enclosures, SR Series pivoting racks, AXS system accessories and SRSR Series rotating sliding rail systems.
Martin‘s company began using Middle Atlantic Products‘ solutions even before they were distributed in the UK. He first viewed Middle Atlantic Products‘ range of offerings at an American trade show and it encompassed everything Martin-Kleiser needed for their installation work–at a quality not found anywhere else. They ordered the desired enclosures and accessories directly from Middle Atlantic Products until the sales channel opened in the UK.
According to Martin, the biggest advantage Middle Atlantic Products offers is that they design specifically to suit home installations. They provide a wide range of equipment, including smaller racks for components that need to be split up.
“Lots of rack providers out there will design their systems for businesses and then say, ‘Oh, yeah, you can use this for homes too,‘” he explains. “Well, it‘s not the same thing. However, Middle Atlantic Products builds racks specifically for home use–with this work in mind. They‘re perfect for us, and most importantly, our clients.”
His company is often faced with the challenge of fitting a large amount of equipment into small spaces, per his clients‘ requests. The biggest hurdle is heat: all that gear in a confined space runs a high risk of overheating. The threat of meltdown grows each year as newer components feature increased processing power and therefore run hotter. However, with advanced fans and sensor technology, Middle Atlantic Products‘ thermal management solutions allow his designers and installers to build a system that won‘t burn itself out.
Martin-Kleiser relies heavily on products like IUQFP Series fan panels, which have been designed and engineered to work quietly and efficiently in any home or boardroom. The self-monitoring system checks temperature and activates the fans automatically when necessary, so temperature spikes can be averted BEFORE they become critical.
And “critical” is the key word for a company like Martin-Kleiser. For the better part of three decades, Steve Martin and his team have grown their business with a focus on quality workmanship and design innovation. To keep their stellar reputation, it remains critical that everything fit the spaces allowed. It‘s critical that all the client‘s electronics work together in harmony, without overheating.
As Martin-Kleiser faces these critical needs, behind all their creativity and innovation stands the reliability of Middle Atlantic Products, providing a structural backbone for Martin-Kleiser to build upon. Because in the most direct terms, if the strength of your business depends on the products you start with, they had better be “bloody good ones.”
