A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

Greensboro, NC – March 2008… To coincide with a significant renovation of their main sanctuary, Westminster Presbyterian Church decided it was time to upgrade their sound reinforcement (SR) system. Wanting to ensure the new SR system would have both the sonic performance they required as well as the ability to aesthetically blend in with the room‘s character, church management sought the expertise of Rock Hill-based Paragon Productions to handle the installation. The sound system Paragon Productions ultimately selected was one of the newest offerings from the TrueLine catalog of WorxAudio Technologies–specifically, the M80i-P Powered Install Line Array.

A member of the Presbyterian Church in America, Westminster Presbyterian Church is committed to a program that is continually growing in vital worship, in theological depth, in true fellowship, in assertive evangelism, and in deeds of compassion. Founded in 1974, the church has grown substantially over the years and now boasts a communicant membership of greater than 2,000 members. Church services at the main sanctuary are quite traditional in nature, with music playing a vital role in the worship experience. Westminster Presbyterian Church‘s services routinely include performances by a sizeable choir and a 30-piece orchestra.

Kelly Bristow, Sales Manager / Project Manager for Paragon Productions, a design/build firm that specializes in the church installation market, selected a 7-element WorxAudio Technologies M80i-P Install Line Array System for the facility upgrade based upon multiple factors. “The M80i-P is a compact, self-powered line array system that is ideal for Westminster Presbyterian‘s main sanctuary. The 860-seat room, which is 105 feet long by 62 feet wide with a 30-foot ceiling, had been using a horn cluster that was installed sometime during the early 1980s. As far as line arrays go, this new system has a relatively small footprint, offers exceptional sound quality, and being self-powered, creates a much cleaner overall installation since one needn‘t be concerned about finding a home for separate power amps and the additional cabling such a system typically involves.”

Westminster Presbyterian Church‘s sanctuary closed for approximately eight weeks during the fall of 2007 for the facility upgrade to take place. Installation of the new sound system occurred during October and the revitalized room was re-opened in November. The new 7-element M80i-P loudspeaker array is flown directly over the stage at the front of the space, and Bristow reports the system‘s sound quality and overall performance is everything he had envisioned.

“This WorxAudio system is very smooth sounding as you walk the room from left to right,” notes Bristow. “The same cannot be said of many competing line arrays in this price range. With the M80i-P, you can hear clearly off-axis, and when you‘re on-axis, the system doesn‘t bombard you with high frequency harshness. It‘s a very natural sounding system that isn‘t the least bit fatiguing on one‘s hearing.”

With the new sound system in place, Bristow reports that Westminster Presbyterian Church management is very pleased with their investment. “This system represents a huge leap forward in sound quality,” states Bristow, “and everyone who has listened to the system has been impressed with its performance. It exhibits a full, rich low end, a midrange that is ideal for the reproduction of speech, and a clean high end that, unlike the prior horn cluster, is never harsh. This single 7-element cluster is also able to cover the balcony area with absolutely no delays and dispersion throughout the entire space is extremely even. I‘m confident this system will serve the church well for many years to come.”
