ELectro-Voice Sound for The Slowdown, Omaha
Saddle Creek Records, the label co-founded by indie icon Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) and home of the “Omaha Sound,” has literally cemented its place on the musical landscape by opening The Slowdown, a new 470-capacity bar and club in downtown Omaha that hosts live performances by regional and touring artists of all genres.
Ohio-based A/V system integrators SoundCom installed three sound systems at the venue, including main and small club systems featuring Electro-Voice loudspeakers and subwoofers. Brendan Dillon, Senior Engineer, SoundCom explained how the install came about:
“A few years back, one of the Saddle Creek bands performed through a system SoundCom designed at Washington DC‘s legendary 9:30 Club. They liked what they heard and asked SoundCom to design a similar system for the Slowdown. We worked with our EV reps CL Pugh to put together system designs and EASE modeling, and arrived at the XLD line array as the ideal solution for their needs.
“The XLD is perfect for a venue of this size, as its small size keeps the sightlines clear without any compromises in SPL or coverage,” Dillon adds. “To look at it, it‘s hard to believe it delivers this level of power and intelligibility across such a wide frequency range. And, aside from size, the XLD simply sounds good–very warm and natural, a cut above. Midas Verona mixing consoles provide superb sound quality at FOH and monitors positions. No matter what kind of act they have on stage, they‘re going to sound their best through this system. We‘re pleased that the XLD has helped The Slowdown become a renowned venue–they‘ve received a lot of positive reviews for sound quality, and it‘s already become a preferred tour stop for bands visiting the region.”
