Warehouses once used for the storage of minerals in the Greek town of Lávrion have been converted to create a modern office and laboratory complex – the Lávrion Technological Park. One of the halls, however, has been reserved for leisure activities. In it, Nedis S.A. installed a DYNACORD sound reinforcement system

Famous in antiquity for its silver mines, which may have been worked as early as 1000 BC, the Greek town of Laurium (now Lávrion) was long an El Dorado for collectors of rare minerals such as jarosite, carminite and scorodite. Today, however, the town is better known for its marina, tourist attractions and high-tech industry. The mine’s historic buildings may be listed but they are far from empty, as the local council recently took the decision to authorize the conversion of the warehouses into offices and laboratories to create an exquisite hi-tech complex – the Lávrion Technological Park.

To ensure the office workers and technicians had somewhere to relax at the end of a busy day, a further decision was taken to reserve one of warehouses for leisure activities. In the planning of the two-storey facility, the sound reinforcement system played an important role. The installation was performed by Nedis S.A. together with the acoustics firm Sotiris Psaras. Theirs was no easy task. Since the hall is a listed building, one of the key stipulations was that the composition of the building – the stone walls, glass facade and wooden floors – could not be altered, even though they added up to an acoustic migraine.

To control the reverberation, the walls, ceilings and corners of the room were clad with various unobtrusive sound absorbent materials, and to obtain as homogeneous a sound as possible – at the same time lending the historic building a dash of modernity — the sound and acoustic specialists from Nedis and Sofiris Psaras installed a total of eight D-12 tops from DYNACORD’s D-Lite series as well as two SUB-118 subwoofers – also from DYNACORD.

Four of the eight D-12 tops, each equipped with a twelve-inch woofer and a high-performance (80° x 40° horn)-loaded neodymium driver, serve the ground floor, with its bar, dining tables and chill-out sofas, and the other four, the tastefully furnished first floor.

Three DYNACORD CL-1200 power amplifiers with a combined wattage of 3600W RMS deliver the requisite power, while a DYNACORD Powermax crossover ensures the optimum frequency distribution. Since the elegantly furnished and superbly equipped premises are used not only for live concerts but also DJ events, a DYNACORD CMS-1000 console also plays a key role in the sound reinforcement strategy.
