J-ROCK INVADES NORTH AMERICA
Shure-Dominated Staging Supports Japanese Rockers On Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour
EDMONTON, ALBERTA—This year’s Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour showcased three prominent J-Rock bands in more than 40 cities. Stopping near the end of its North American run here on the Canadian prairie within the cavernous depths of the Northlands AgriCom, the traveling show brought Japanese rockers MUCC (pronounced “mukku”), D’espairsRay, and The Underneath to its stage along with a multi-artist lineup including Avenged Sevenfold, Bless the Fall, and Bullet for My Valentine. Using ULX wireless guitar systems, PSM700 in-ear monitoring, and a wide range of microphones including a contingent of SM58s provided by Shure Inc., the J-Rock bands performed with distinct styles both traditional and modern, drawing inspiration freely from J-pop, rock, electro, folk, death metal, salsa, tango, country, and hip hop.
“Given Shure’s premium quality, we knew we could depend upon obtaining clear, accurate reproduction,” said Taste of Chaos promoter Kevin Lyman, a man also known to many as the creator of the Warped Tour. “On this tour, Shure provided us with the necessary tools to capture every nuance of the artists’ performances, regardless of the size of the venue we were in. The company was instrumental in the success of building a bigger J-Rock connection here in the U.S. and Canada. It gave the bands what they needed to perform consistently and at their best.”
The only microphone sponsor on the tour, Shure joins the J-Rock revolution at a time when Japanese rock bands are increasingly crossing international borders with a prolific and unique sound garnering attention everywhere from Peoria to Stockholm.
“This year, Rockstar Taste of Chaos was an especially huge event for the J-Rock community,” Richard Sandrok of Shure Artist Relations said while out with the tour. “As expected, the J-Rock performances were outstanding. Dedication and originality marked each set. The timing couldn’t have been better to help set the stage for these artists to secure a wider audience here. Now that this tour is winding down, I can safely say that if I had it to do all over again, well—I’d definitely do it again, and gladly.”
