Fully UL-Certified, Wide-Body Design and Multiple Stability and Control Features; Designed Primarily for K-12 Educational Environments

CHICAGO – June 13, 2008 – Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. (InfoComm Booth #N5841), a leading supplier of technology and media furniture that improves how people work and learn, today introduced the industry’s first fully UL-certified line of flat panel carts primarily for K-12 educational environments. The new FPBBUL Series Flat Panel Wide-Body Carts provide the ideal combination of extreme safety, stability and strength necessary to protect people – especially small children – from harm and the flat panel technology equipment from damage. The new carts are part of Bretford’s full commercial AV furniture offering and will be exhibited in the education vignette of the company’s booth during InfoComm 08, June 18-20, in Las Vegas, NV.

According to Dave Smith, product manager for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc., “Safety is critical where children are present. Many schools are now replacing old CRT TVs with flat panel monitors, which require an entirely different cart design. Unfortunately, schools are finding creative ways to hold the monitors in place, like using safety belts designed to go around the cabinet of a CRT monitor and not the base of a flat panel. This is dangerous and can lead to injury and equipment damage.?

Bretford’s FPBBUL Series carts, instead, integrate the flat panel monitor into the cart design by mounting it directly to the pole on the top shelf of the cart. The carts are designed to safely hold any size LCD or plasma display weighing up to 85 pounds while offering a simple method of transporting a flat panel monitor with a DVD player, speakers or other audio visual equipment from one location to another. While designed mainly for K-12 schools, the carts are also great for higher education, government facilities, public service buildings, office environments or essentially any commercial location where a large flat panel is used.

Safe, Stable and Secure
The new FPBBUL Series carts have undergone a battery of tests for risks inherent with children to ensure the most complete range of safety features available today. Each full cart (not just the electrical components) is certified to comply with UL standard 1667 for tall institutional carts. This includes passing a 10-degree incline test for stability as well as static load testing at four times the approved weight to ensure a secure platform and long product life.

The carts feature a wide-body pyramid design that lowers their center of gravity while their four-leg design keeps them stable. They include two fixed casters that help manage the direction of travel, and the top-shelf handle provides easy control during transit and more room to walk behind the cart. The Bretford carts incorporate cord management into the overall design to keep wires neat and out of the way.

The carts have a reinforced top shelf that better supports the weight distribution of a flat panel. Their universal mounting bracket is adjustable to fit the unique mounting hole pattern on the back of virtually any monitor up to 700 mm wide by 400 mm tall. The Bretford carts also include anti-theft screws that further reduce loss or damage to expensive flat panel equipment.

The new carts are made in the United States for added quality assurance. They are constructed using approximately 30 percent post consumer recycled steel content and are finished in an environmentally friendly black powder paint. Their steel and aluminum construction is 100 percent recyclable at the end of the product life.

Pricing and Availability
The FPBBUL Flat Panel Wide-Body Carts will be available for order this month through Bretford’s nationwide reseller network for list prices starting at $785.00. For more information about technology and media furniture solutions from Bretford, please call 1-800-521-9614 or go to www.bretford.com.
