Replaceable Reinforced Steel Shelves, UL-Certified Models, Small Carbon Footprint

CHICAGO – June 10, 2008 – Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. (InfoComm Booth #N5841), a leading supplier of technology and media furniture that improves how people work and learn, is giving K-12 schools and school districts a safe and sustainable way to extend the usable life of their current AV furniture with the new BB Wide-Body Cart Retrofit Kits and 2642NSKIT AV Cart Retrofit Kit. These latest additions to Bretford’s full commercial AV furniture offering can be seen in the Bretford booth at InfoComm 08, June 18-20, in Las Vegas, Nev.

“Bretford introduced some of the very first mobile AV carts four decades ago. While we’ve released many product generations since then, a lot of our earlier designs are still in use today,? said Dave Smith, product manager for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. “In tough economic times, many educational institutions just don’t have the budget to buy new AV furniture, so the retrofit kits provide a great way for schools to modernize the equipment they already have to accommodate new technologies like flat panels, laptops and data projectors.?

The new retrofit kits update Bretford’s technology furniture carts to mirror those new to the market today. “For example, a 15-year-old cart can now be updated to function like an entirely new cart that can last for many more years,? explained Smith. “Some aftermarket AV cart modifications incorporate potentially unsafe changes like drilling into the shelves, which compromises their structural integrity,? he said. The new retrofit kits replace the entire top shelf with a reinforced steel shelf and a thicker shelf base that securely holds the technology products and will not deform or tear. “The retrofit kit designs ultimately protect the people around the carts – particularly children – and the expensive technology equipment used on those carts,? said Smith.

BB Wide-Body Cart Retrofit Kits
The new BB Wide-Body Cart Retrofit Kits safely convert Bretford’s Basics BB Series Wide-Body TV Carts for use with flat panel monitors. Their top shelf provides the proper fit and weight distribution, and it easily mounts to the cart legs using existing hardware. The BB Wide-Body Cart Retrofit Kits also feature a top-shelf handle that makes it easier to control the cart and provides more room to walk when moving it from location to location.

Schools that already have Bretford’s UL-Certified BB Wide-Body TV Carts will be able to retain their cart certification with the company’s new UL-Certified accessory retrofit kits (FPBBUL32KIT-BK, FPBBUL37KIT-BK, and FPBBUL42KIT-BK). These kits comply with UL Standard 1667 and have been stability and load tested for safe use with a flat panel monitor.

2642NSKIT AV Cart Retrofit Kit
The 2642NSKIT AV Cart Retrofit Kit is for Bretford’s adjustable A2642/CA2642 AV carts, originally designed for reel-to-reel and slide projectors. It includes a large notebook shelf that pulls out on smooth-rolling glides to make it more functional and easier to use. At the same time, it gives educators greater interaction with such technology products as laptops, document cameras and projectors. The kit also enables the cart to maintain its height adjustability from 26-to-42-inches high in four-inch increments.

The 2642NSKIT features durable all-steel construction and a black powder paint finish, with legs already welded to the shelves so minimal assembly time is required. Environmentally friendly, the kit contains approximately 30 percent post consumer recycled steel and uses the leg hardware, rubber mat and optional electric unit from the original cart.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The new retrofit kits have a small carbon footprint; they require only a small amount of material to produce and they are made in the United States. Because the existing cart can be reused, less waste ends up going into a landfill. Additionally, the old top shelf is 100 percent steel, which is the No. 1 recycled material today.

Pricing and Availability
The new 2642NSKIT and BB Wide Body Cart Retrofit Kits are available now through Bretford’s nationwide reseller network for list prices starting at $440.00. For more information about technology and media furniture solutions from Bretford, please call 1-800-521-9614 or go to www.bretford.com.
