CESNET Goes High Definition with HaiVision’s MAKO-HD “Zero Latency” TelePresence H.264 Codec
Montreal, Canada — July 8, 2008 — HaiVision Systems Inc. the world leader in performance video encoding technology, today announced that Prague-based CESNET has deployed HaiVision’s hai1000 H.264 MAKO-HD encoders/decoders to facilitate synchronous real-time high definition video broadcasts over the CESNET backbone. The solution partner was MediaStream, s.r.o. of the Czech Republic.
“HaiVision’s systems provide unmatched real-time HD streaming performance,” explains David Bursa of MediaStream. “The MAKO allows clients such as CESNET to explore the potential for applications based on the highest possible resolution video at the lowest possible latency. As well, HaiVision systems are natively bi-directional (encode/decode) so ultimately we can transmit in either direction to create stunning collaborative environments and deliver true telepresence in a medical environment.”
“CESNET is a networking research institute of the highest caliber,” adds Mirko Wicha, HaiVision’s CEO. “HaiVision could imagine no better environment for the exercise of the MAKO’s industry-leading features and performances.”
CESNET is the Czech Republic’s National Research and Education Network (NREN) operator. It was founded in 1996 by various universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. CESNET operates and develops the Czech NREN as both a service to members, as well as a real-world environment to support the research and development of advanced network technologies and applications. Its mission is to broaden the public knowledge of advanced networking topics, in particular multimedia transmission and collaborative environments.
HaiVision’s MAKO-HD is capturing the attention of audio visual professionals and networking experts across a range of disciplines, thanks to the MAKO’s unique performance characteristics. Within HaiVision’s flagship hai1000 series the MAKO provides video at up to 1080p resolution with an end-to-end latency of only 70 milliseconds. The hai1000 multi-stream system, integrated within the systems of HaiVision’s OEM clients, is the world’s leading codec for telepresence. Delivered over IP, the MAKO’s industry-standard H.264 compressed video is interoperable with a wide range of appliances, software, and systems — from consumer-grade set top boxes, to soft players, to broadcast and telco-grade video platforms. The MAKO supports leading applications in medical markets for telesurgery and telemedicine, in educational applications for simulation and continuous presence, in conferencing communications for the world’s leading telePresence suites, and in broadcast for interactive broadcast contribution.
MediaStream, founded in 2004, serves customers within the Czech Republic. The company references a number of high-profile projects including T-Systems, the Czech Republic IPTV encoding and middleware solution; the International Astronomical Union; the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic content delivery solution; and the Technical Administration of Roads of the City of Prague content processing framework.
