Calypso Control Systems’ Touch Screen Controller Puts Advanced A/V Control Within Reach for K-12 Classrooms

CB-5000HUDSON, WIS., August 6, 2008 — Continuing its effort to support adoption of the 21st Century classroom technology, Calypso Control Systems has introduced the CB-5000 wall-mount touch controller. Designed and priced for the K-12 environment, the CB-5000 is a fully-integrated small room A/V device controller that delivers high-end device management functionality and intuitive touch screen interface.
“More than simply a button panel, the CB-5000 is a breakthrough product that simplifies classroom monitoring and control,? said David H. Parish, Ph.D., president of Calypso Control Systems. “A practical solution for the K-12 environment, the touch controller delivers the benefits of higher-end systems without the price tag. Not only does the

CB-5000 make touch screen control interface affordable for the K-12 environment, it also dramatically simplifies programming and installation.?

With advanced features and network control, the Calypso CB-5000 addresses the control and interface requirements of teachers, IT directors, administrators and system integrators.

For teachers, the use of technology in the classroom no longer requires a “pause? in the lecture in order to engage the devices. With little or no training needed, teachers can use the intuitive touch-screen controller to incorporate information from multiple A/V tools into the classroom discussion and toggle between media inputs.

“With the CB-5000, technology is no longer an unpredictable element in the classroom,? said Parish. “Technology should be viewed as an asset in the K-12 classroom. Through the use of the CB-5000 teachers are empowered to integrate technology in their lesson plans and realize the powerful impact technology can have on improving the education process.?

For IT directors and school administrators, the CB-5000 is the ideal solution for controlling multiple devices. Capable of remote monitoring and control, the networked controller enables administrators to operate devices from a central location, schedule automatic device shut-down in the event the devices are inadvertently left on, or issue e-mail alerts if devices are removed.

Additionally, the CB-5000’s open architecture design does not require time intensive control logic code writing, instead, the controller uses a Web-driven “event database? to design sequences of control “triggers? and “actions.? The off-line configuration software assigns buttons from a graphic library and links buttons to control actions. Once designed, IT directors can replicate the configuration and deploy the same interface over the network to other controllers. The CB-5000’s three-inch monochrome touch screen display supports a total of 64 buttons and up to eight pages — enabling IT directors to customize or expand buttons based on specific needs or preference.

For system integrators, the self-contained 2-gang unit is designed for easy installation and hassle-free start-up. And as new A/V equipment is introduced into the classroom, the controller’s built-in expansion options and off-line configuration software simplify the configuration process.

Technical features of the touch controller include:

- Four integrated RS-232 ports
- Two on-board IR outputs
- Standard Ethernet RJ-45 jack
- Additional serial, IR and relay connections can be added through an optional series of smart block RJ-45 adapters

Suitable for wall-mount or podium installation, the touch controller can be installed to meet teacher or room requirements.

Available for the 2008/2009 school year, the CB-5000 Touch Controller has a starting price of $599. For more information, please visit www.calypsocontrol.com or call (715) 381-9646.
