SHURE ANNOUNCES 6th ANNUAL MONTREUX JAZZ VOICE COMPETITION WINNERS
NILES, IL, August 5, 2008 — The 6th Annual Shure/Montreux Jazz Voice Competition concluded on July 9 with German singer Sabine Kuehlich (in photo above) receiving first prize. The second and third place winners were Americans Liela Avila and Amy Crawford.
Renowned jazz vocalist Patti Austin headed the competition jury, which judged the quality of the singers’ vocals, the originality of the interpretations of their songs, their improvisational skills, and their stage presence. Kuehlich scored highly in all areas and impressed the audience with her dynamic performance of Chick Corea’s “You’re Everything� and two of her own original compositions.
The three finalists were chosen from a group of 13 semi-finalists. Each singer was accompanied for their performance by Swiss musicians Jean-Pierre Schaller (bass), Cyril Regamey (drums), and Peter Wagner (piano).
The three finalists each received a Shure ULX® Wireless System with the Shure microphone of their choice, in addition to cash prizes from the festival. Also, first prize winnerKuehlich will perform at the 43rd Montreux Jazz Festival in 2009.
