A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

Good Data In, Great Sound Out

Institution Univers Chretien d’HaitiThe Institution Univers Chretien d’Haiti is a long way from the offices of Polar Focus, a professional audio rigging design and manufacturing company in western Massachusetts, and from Truthseeker Productions, an audio installation contractor, of Columbus, Ohio. But that was not an obstacle to installing a new sound reinforcement system in the school auditorium at the Institution Univers. Preschool, kindergarten, primary and secondary, as well as adult vocational education, are offered at the Institution. In this photograph of graduation ceremonies you can see two EAW MK2364WP speakers, neatly attached to a steel beam with chain slings going to Polar Focus ZB-20-300-B universal audio rigging bumpers, which provide adjustable pan (left to right) control. Between the Zbeams and the MK speakers are the Polar Focus Tilt Cable Kits, which provide adjustable tilt control. Weatherproof speakers were chosen because, although the space is enclosed, ventilation is provided through a gap between the roof and the top of the walls. So, using weatherproof speakers is a wise precaution against the normal heat and humidity of this beautiful tropical setting.

Steve Gill, of the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church in Columbus, contacted Dave Horn of Truth Seeker Productions. Steve was working with the Coalition of Children in Need Association, or C.O.C.I.N.A. to, among other projects, provide the new auditorium audio system, and a team of volunteers was going to Ouanaminthe assess the needs of the Univers. A member of Steve’s team, Howard Zimmer, is a retired construction superintendent. Polar Focus had provided Dave Horn with some worksheets for collecting speaker placement data, Dave gave these to the team from Upper Arlington Lutheran, and Howard was just the right guy to take the measurements on site so that Dave and Polar Focus could design the audio rigging system.

When asked how it worked out to use the Polar Focus measurement worksheets with this job, Dave Horn said “They were essential, since Truthseeker Productions designed this remotely they absolutely had to have exact measurements, and the worksheets made those clear.

Dave received glowing reports from Steve Gill, including: “The Polar Focus gear made the rigging easy. The precalculations were dead on-speaker height and placement were perfect. The EAW’s were a perfect match for the room…sound clean and clear anywhere I sat. Above all, the client was thrilled!
