Sennheiser Selects Furman’s Power Management Products

PETALUMA, Calif. — Sept. 15, 2008 — Furman, a world-leading provider of power management solutions, today announced that Sennheiser relies on Furman’s high-end products to protect equipment from damage for touring artists around the globe. Sennheiser, a world-leading manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, includes a Furman PL-PLUS D Series II power conditioner in every rack in the Americas, while deploying the PL-PRO D E Series II power conditioner in Asian and European systems.

Sennheiser’s global support manager, Mick Whelan, has a long and distinguished career in the music industry, and was instrumental in choosing the Furman products. He previously toured arenas and stadiums as the front-of-house or system engineer for a number of artists including Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Cheap Trick, and Elvis Costello to name a few. Whelan has been designing PA systems for more than 30 years and not only provides support to major artists and events, but also helps design their racks.

Whelan understands the importance of effective rack design and proper power management as it pertains to performance and reliability on stage. He commented, “The two biggest challenges I face in rack design are limited space, and which type of plug to use for international racks. In any design, space is at a premium, so components must take up as little room as possible; plus different countries use different plugs, and it is impossible to standardize a plug without alienating a large percentage of the world’s population.”

To overcome these challenges, Whelan has turned to Furman’s PL-PLUS D Series II power conditioner for the Americas, and the PL-PRO D E Series II for overseas racks. Both products offer the small 1-RU size to meet space limitations, while providing advanced surge suppression and noise filtration technologies for optimal component performance. Furthermore, for overseas systems, the PL-PRO D E Series II solves the issue of compatibility by offering IEC power distribution. This not only allows one rack to work for a show in Europe and another in Asia, but it also requires half the rack space and typically half the cable length by using off the shelf, short IEC-IEC cables. Unlike a conventional distro, this provides for a neat, clean design.

“We are pleased to team up with Sennheiser to ensure trouble-free performances for touring artists around the world,” said Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Furman. “To have a leader like Sennheiser and a pro like Mick Whelan rely on our products is a testament to the outstanding performance our conditioners provide.”
