Meyer Sound Announces New Self-Powered UPQ-2P Narrow Coverage Loudspeaker

mpa-upq_singleflown_h-2p.jpgMeyer Sound has announced the release of the new self-powered UPQ-2P narrow coverage loudspeaker.

The latest addition to the company’s acclaimed UltraSeries family of loudspeakers, the UPQ-2P delivers the same smooth sonic performance that has made Meyer Sound UltraSeries products the choice for Broadway productions, performance venues and nightclubs. The UPQ-2P’s exceptionally high power output and low distortion, combined with its tightly focused beamwidth, make it an ideal solution for small to mid-sized auditoriums, houses of worship, theatres and nightclubs, offering flexible functionality as a stand-alone loudspeaker or as a part of an array.

With its extended low-frequency headroom, the UPQ-2P offers powerful and consistent performance over a wide operating range of 55 Hz to 18 kHz, delivering a powerful peak SPL of 136dB with ultra-low distortion. Its constant-Q horn yields precision coverage over a narrow beamwidth of 50-degrees by 50-degrees, resulting in minimal interaction with adjacent surfaces and neighboring loudspeakers, while a wide selection of flexible rigging options make it an ideal choice for a range of installations.

“The UltraSeries has become one of Meyer Sound’s most in-demand loudspeaker lines for theatres, churches, live venues and anywhere where customers and conditions demand smaller, lighter loudspeakers with premium performance over the widest possible frequency range,” says John Meyer, CEO and Co-Founder of Meyer Sound. “The UPQ-2P has been designed as an ideal complement to the wide-coverage UPQ-1P, which has already been receiving stellar reviews in the short time since its release.”

The UPQ-2P features a low-frequency 15-inch neodymium magnet cone driver and 4-inch diaphragm compression driver, both designed and manufactured at Meyer Sound’s Berkeley, California laboratories. Its proprietary two-channel class AB/H power amplifier yields a combined power output of 1275 Watts, and utilizes Meyer Sound’s proprietary QuietCool fan technology, which turns on at high audio levels to prevent overheating under extreme usage conditions. The amplifier is equipped with Meyer Sound’s Intelligent AC power supply that adapts to any power voltage worldwide. Meyer Sound’s 600-HP and 700-HP subwoofers are optimal choices for extended sub-bass power, as well as other Meyer Sound subwoofers, such as the 650-P high-power subwoofer and the USW-1P compact subwoofer.

As with all self-powered Meyer Sound loudspeakers, the UPQ-2P features integral amplification, as well as complex crossover, driver protection including dedicated limiters to protect and extend the life of the drivers, and frequency and phase correction circuitry onboard. This ensures a flat acoustical amplitude and phase response for tonal accuracy and precise imaging across its entire frequency range.

The UPQ-2P’s rugged trapezoidal enclosure features a textured, hard-shell finish and includes an integral pole mount receptacle that accepts 1-1/2″ diameter poles or loudspeaker stands. In addition, the cabinet incorporates versatile rigging end plates with multiple threaded M10 attachment points that allow eye-bolt rigging. QuickFly rigging options include the MPA-UPQ pick-up and array plate and MYA-UPQ mounting yoke for fast, safe and aesthetically pleasing mounting. The MPA-UPQ pick-up and array plate allows for both vertical and horizontal arrays of up to two UPQ-2P cabinets. Additional options include Meyer Sound weather protection, an installation version without handles, and custom color finishes.

The UPQ-2P will begin shipping in October 2008.
