HaiVision Telepresence Technology Enables NewSpring Church to Continue Expansion While Maintaining Its Message

MONTREAL — Sept. 23, 2008 — HaiVision Systems Inc., the world’s leading vendor of true telepresence codecs, today announced that NewSpring Church (www.NewSpring.cc) is deploying a hai1000™ series network video system with the MAKO-HD codec to connect three South Carolina campuses. In eight years NewSpring Church has grown from 115 members to a ministry with more than 9,000 people attending worship at its Anderson and Greenville locations. As the church prepares to launch a third campus in Florence, S.C., and an Internet campus, the HaiVision solution provides a flexible and highly scalable platform for sharing live teaching across all campuses during Sunday services.

“In deploying a live, video solution for outreach beyond our Anderson campus, we sought a proven product that wouldn’t limit the number of sites we could include in our ministry,” said Pastor Tony Morgan, chief strategic officer at NewSpring Church. “After researching several options, HaiVision appeared to offer the best solution for meeting both our performance and functional needs as we communicate and connect with church members. We’re confident that this technology will continue to support new ways of delivering media content as we move forward.”

The MAKO-HD is the world’s fastest HD codec, achieving a remarkable 70 milliseconds of end-to-end latency at HD resolutions up to 1080p. Each MAKO-HD codec blade can encode both HD video and computer graphics simultaneously and at guaranteed and synchronized frame rates. NewSpring Church installed its new hai1060, equipped with MAKO-HD and HMF2 SD blades, with the assistance of systems designer Jayson Fuhlbruck of Eastgate Productions.

The hai1060 at NewSpring Church can support up to 10 codec channels within its compact 3U design. Unlike traditional conferencing systems, which typically support just one channel per system, the multichannel, high-density architecture of the hai1060 ensures excellent HD image quality and low latency while streaming to multiple sites.

As the pastor leads teaching at the NewSpring Anderson campus, the HaiVision system provides a virtual representation of him at the Greenville campus and, early next year, at the new Florence campus. In addition to providing a life-size image of the speaker during regular services, the telepresence system offers live bidirectional or push-to capability when needed for interactive events. The grand opening for deployment of the church’s multisite telepresence took place on Sept. 14.

“Houses of worship rely on direct, personal communication for sharing of spiritual messages, and only the best telepresence technology can offer the true-to-life image quality so critical to this experience,” said Mirko Wicha, HaiVision president and CEO. “The hai1000 series and our MAKO-HD codecs deliver this level of quality, allowing NewSpring Church to use dynamic media communication in extending the reach and impact of its ministry.”
