Another first for Rogue Element Films in purchase of Sony’s F35
Pinewood Studios, UK, 3 October 2008 – Independent digital cinematography specialist Rogue Element Films took delivery of the first Sony F35 CineAlta camera sold by German distributor, BandPro Munich at the IBC 2008 exhibition held at the Amsterdam RAI, The Netherlands between 12-16 September 2008. Rogue Element Films is the only dedicated digital film company in the world to offer the F35 in both its native SR capture format or converted to uncompressed DPX digital negative data.
“The purchase of the Sony F35 is the next logical step for Rogue Element Films and promises to take real-time Digital Imaging to the next level and is a natural choice for all our clients, says Dan Mulligan, Managing Director and Cinematographer at Rogue Element Films.
The flagship Sony F35 CineAlta Camera features includes S-Log image capturing of a digital negative as well as the ability to capture 50P 4:4:4 HD RGB images and in slow motion in real-time. The F35 features a ramping technique for live in-camera speed changes making it a valuable production tool. With increased sensitivity and dynamic range (14 stops) aligned with 35mm lenses, the digital film camera brings together not only renowned build quality, but along with it film-style support and power. Rogue Element Films provides the F35 with the unique Rogue Mobile Colour Timing Suites and support of Stwo Digital Film Recorders, a first for this camera.
The purchase of the Sony F35 follows the recent purchase of a F23 camera from BandPro. Rogue Element Films sees the investment as a perfect production tool for theatrical feature films, commercials, pop promos and independent features. The company’s clients are mostly feature film-based and the F35 is a welcome addition to the existing roster of equipment. “With full and trusted support from Band Pro, this is a great time to be purchasing such a high-end system and it complements our existing structure perfectly, adds Mulligan.
“The interest in this camera is enormous. 35mm format image processing and lenses with the resultant depth of field is something that productions will see as extremely beneficial in terms of mood and use. Along with the ability to not only capture and store a digital negative, we can service all our clients with a full 2K Christie DCI Cinema Projector and a full 4K Quantel Pablo workflow, by working with partner Pablo Post, to produce a full post infrastructure from capture to grading and beyond.
