Grant Program From Calypso Helps Districts Test Solutions and Evaluate 21st Century Classroom Needs

HUDSON, WI, Oct. 3, 2008 — Recognizing the importance of technology in K-12 learning environments, Calypso Control Systems has introduced a multimedia classroom grant program. Recipients receive up to $1,200 toward the purchase and installation of Calypso’s ezRoom Classroom Bundle.

In addition to providing teachers with the opportunity to experience the power and potential of an integrated classroom technology solution, the grant program provides districts with the option of beta-testing a solution and then developing a strategy for deployment without risk or commitment.

“Technology is instrumental to the teaching and learning process, however some schools are hesitant to take on the risk of full deployment without having the opportunity to test and ‘play with’ the technology first,? said David H. Parish, Ph.D., president of Calypso Control Systems. “Our grant program empowers districts with the opportunity to determine what works for them in their own environment.?

Since the grant program was made available in early 2008, 19 school districts have received the grant, totaling $50,000 in products. Some of the school districts that have benefited from the grant program include:
• Duarte ISD, Duarte, CA, School Renovation Project
• Spooner School District, Spooner, WI, New Construction & Renovation Project
• Hudson School District, Hudson, WI, New Construction
• Kent School District, Kent, WA, New Construction
• Red Oak ISD, Red Oak, TX, Renovation

According to Kevin Cox, senior network administrator for Red Oak ISD, the grant program was a great opportunity for their district to beta-test the solution before committing resources for school-wide installation during the summer.

“Selecting the right technology elements for the classrooms can be a challenge, especially when you’re unfamiliar with the features of the available options,? said Cox. “Calypso’s grant program gave us hands-on access to the ezRoom bundle, allowing us to test the solution before committing to a full-scale install. After trying it out and receiving positive feedback from faculty, we plan to incorporate the technology into all classrooms in an elementary school under construction.?

A complete pre-assembled audio-visual (A/V) solution, the ezRoom Classroom Bundle brings together state-of-the-art control, interface, audio and connectivity products quickly, reliably and cost effectively. With the addition of a projector, screen and A/V source devices, the ezRoom provides administrators and faculty with the tools necessary to achieve the “21st Century Classroom.?
