VMMDA-1 “Confidence Plus” Audio Monitor
The 1RU VMMDA-1 from Wohler provides stereo monitoring with fidelity exceeding that of ordinary monitors in a similar rack size. Intended for confidence monitoring for HD-SDI, SD-SDI, digital, and analog stereo audio, the unit offers selectable monitoring of either two HD-SDI or SD-SDI channels and either one stereo analog or one AES/EBU digital audio source with outstanding full-range fidelity. Two front-firing midrange/tweeter speakers and a compact high-performance woofer are arranged in Wohler Technologies’ popular bi-amp design.

Electronic rather than acoustic cancellation of bass frequencies provides positive audible detection of out-of-phase (reversed polarity) audio feeds, and fast and averaging “phase” LEDs give a visual alert of out-of-phase conditions. The VMMDA-1 features two 10-segment VU LED bar graph level meters. An analog output of the selected SDI, analog, or digital stereo source is provided on the rear panel. A three-way toggle switch selects among analog or digital inputs. An auxiliary analog output of the selected analog or digital source is provided on the rear panel.

VMDA-SUM8 Continuity Monitor
Wohler’s VMDA-SUM8 eight-channel analog/digital continuity monitor features a reduced depth dimension of just 4.75 inches, thus providing self-powered audio confidence monitoring in the smallest rack space possible. The VMDA-SUM8 offers selection among eight separate digital channel inputs (four AES streams) and eight separate analog inputs on a channel-by-channel basis. The selected channels are then summed together: four to the left and four to the right, providing eight separate volume controls. An analog/digital input select switch gives the operator complete control of the output.

E MON-1/M Audio Monitor
The E MON-1/M unit is a powered eight-channel audio monitor designed specifically for decoding, processing, and monitoring Dolby® E, Dolby Digital, HD-SDI, SD-SDI, and AES/EBU audio signals with excellent fidelity in just 2RU. The monitor’s eight high-resolution LED bar graphs offer superior visibility and accuracy of audio levels, and its front-panel LCD display provides mode and audio-select information at a glance. Fifty-three bicolor segments simultaneously display signal levels according to PPM and VU standards. E MON-1/M speakers and amplifiers are arranged in the popular Wohler bi-amp summed bass stereo configuration. Bass frequencies from all selected channels are summed into a 20W amplifier, which drives the woofer. The two side channel amplifiers and speakers reproduce, in stereo, only the mid- and high-frequencies. The monitor’s headphone output mutes the speakers while in use.

VMQ-4 Four-Channel Audio Monitor
Wohler’s 1RU VMQ-4 audio monitor permits simultaneous monitoring of up to four audio sources on four analog inputs with voice-quality fidelity. Because each channel has its own dedicated power amplifier and speaker, the audio sources remain completely separate from analog input to output. A separate volume control is provided for each of the four monitored channels, and each channel has an LED that illuminates when a signal is “active” in that channel.

ATSC/DVB-3 Six-Channel Audio Monitor
The ATSC/DVB-3 is a powered stereo monitor designed specifically for flexible, comprehensive monitoring of the six audio channels associated with ATSC/DVB programming. The 2RU system provides excellent fidelity without using excessive rack space in the critical “operating zone” of rack bays and consoles. The ATSC/DVB-3 accepts AES/EBU and/or Dolby® Digital (AC-3) input signals and offers capabilities key for monitoring throughout the facility. The speakers and amplifiers are arranged in the popular Wohler bi-amp summed bass stereo configuration. Bass frequencies from all selected channels are summed into a 20W amplifier that drives the woofer. The two side-channel amplifiers and speakers reproduce, in stereo, only the mid- and high-frequencies.

Other Products and Solutions:

LM Series Audio-Level Metering Units
At GV Expo 2008, Wohler will feature two of its LM Series audio-level metering units, the LM26HR-8 eight-channel, 26-segment level meter and the ultra-high-resolution LM106-6/AC-3 six-channel, 106-segment level meter, the latter providing an industry-leading dynamic range up to 70dB in increments as small as 1/2dB across mid-scale. Each LM Series analog metering unit features input connector impedances of 27 K ohm, balanced, which may be adjusted for reference-level gain via a rear-panel DIP switch. Input impedances for digital metering units are 110 ohm, balanced, for XLR and Phoenix connectors and 75 ohm, unbalanced, for BNC connectors. The LM Series’ standard display mode is set as a single-segment PPM dot above a VU bar; each segment’s color is fixed according to its position on the scale. Wohler’s unique tricolor LED design enables a virtually unlimited variety of metering options including phase correlation, peak hold, loudness, sum and difference, and alternate scales and color mappings.

ALM Series Level Meters
Wohler’s ALM series monitors 24 audio channels, providing audible and visual alarms for loss of audio, over-range (clipping), and phase/polarity reversal. When an ALM unit detects a fault condition, it activates individual channel LEDs and sets off an acoustic alarm. One or more rear-panel relay contact closures also are energized for external alarm indication. Clip and loss alarms are independently indicated on each channel, and each channel may be set individually or grouped in a stereo pair. ALM units are available in 1RU and 2RU designs respectively featuring 26-segment and 53-segment high-resolution tricolor LED bargraph displays of VU or PPM, depending on operator preference. Configuration of each unit is simplified by an easy-to-use Windows® application.

Touch-it™ Digital Multichannel Video Monitor
Wohler’s new Touch-it™ Digital offers unique multichannel video monitoring functionality in a smart, affordable design. The 3RU system features dual 7-inch high-resolution color LCD displays. The left monitor is a touch screen that displays from four to 16 thumbnail images. When one of these images is touched, that video source appears on the right monitor at full size and its HD/SD-SDI source signal is sent to an unbalanced output and to a VGA output for monitoring on an external display. The Touch-it Digital accepts and switches eight standard SD-SDI video inputs, passing along any embedded audio. When combined with a Wohler E-Frame, closed captioning, and logo keyer E-Cards, the Touch-it Digital serves as an elegant and cost-effective master control system.
