2007 CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Awards Entry:
Best Large Home Theater, Level VI: $550,000 – $815,000
The theater was to be installed in the attic space directly over the master bedroom. The homeowner contractually required the noise floor in the master bedroom not increase more than 6dB (NC) with the theater playing at reference volume.

The bigger challenge in the project was structural. We had to remove the roof from the home, change the gable, relocate mechanical equipment, and provide additional foundation supports. The control system is a Crestron AV2Pro based system with a STX-1700CXP color two-way touchpanel. The Crestron system integrates with three Lutron six-zone Grafik Eyes and the home’s security system. There were various requirements to signal alarm status in the theater during its use.

LCR speakers are located behind a 2.35:1 Stewart Microperf screen. A total of six surround speakers are used as an array. Reference can easily be achieved. Absorption and diffusion have been used. The room achieved NC19. A dedicated 2-ton system was installed with multiple supplies in the front and returns in the rear. All low noise diffusers are concealed.

Both the audio and video were calibrated. Four days was dedicated to audio and video calibration efforts.
