A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

Christie Illuminates The Visual Landscape Of Downtown Cambridge, Ontario Elevating Unsilent Night To New Heights

unsilentChristie, a global leader in visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, will light up the City of Cambridge for the one-of-a-kind, global event, Unsilent Night. Celebrated in at least 35 cities around the world, Unsilent Night will be a first for the province of Ontario and by far, the most unique to ever take place anywhere. Christie will partner with University of Waterloo Architecture Cambridge students to create a complete multi-media immersion of the senses, elevating the city’s visual landscape to new heights. Unsilent Night will feature still and interactive images, videos and light installations that are sure to put everyone in the holiday mood and enhance the musical experience that makes Unsilent Night a celebrated, world class event.

Five-hundred people are expected to gather at Cambridge City Hall and are encouraged to simultaneously switch on a music track from a portable player, adding to an ambient ensemble composed by artist, Phil Kline. As they walk from Cambridge City Hall through historic downtown Cambridge and back, people will witness a harmonious fusion of sound and illumination, which has never been experienced in any worldwide demonstration of Unsilent Night.

University of Waterloo Architecture Cambridge students in Dr. Jeff Lederer’s Urban Revitalization and Design class will showcase spectacular light installations designed to illuminate a walking path for people to follow. Light features will also enhance the visual landscape of civic buildings in the City of Cambridge. Passersby will take in the beauty of winter-themed images, as two Christie Roadster HD18K 3-chip DLP(r) projectors edge-blend to display the images on the river wall north of the Main Street bridge. Historic City Hall will also capture peoples’ attention with two stacked Christie Roadster HD12K projectors casting more serene, winter images. The attention will turn back to ground level with intricate light displays featured at Queen’s Square Library and Mill Race Park. For those who like to be involved in the creation of art, “store fronts on Main and Ainslie Streets will have cameras aimed at people walking by, allowing them to become part of the displays,” remarks Dr. Jeff Lederer.

Unsilent Night is not just about the celebration of art, but about communities coming together and sharing what they have to offer. “Bringing this event to the community couldn’t have happened without our partnerships. Unsilent Night provides us with a unique opportunity to tap into the local talents of the students at Waterloo Architecture Cambridge, and to showcase projection technology that a world leader like Christie has to offer,” says Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig.

Christie is proud to be a part of Unsilent Night because it allows students to artistically express themselves to the community, while participating in an event of global scale, remarks Kathryn Cress, vice-president of global and corporate marketing at Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc. “We’re very excited to be a part of this unique experience that the City of Cambridge is bringing to the community. Our visual technology serves as a great tool in helping students deliver compelling images to the community and be part of something that continues to experience worldwide success.”

If you’d like to be participate in this exciting community event, you can download music from www.christmasincambridge.ca or receive your personal CD or cassette tape upon arrival.

If you don’t have a portable music player you can still participate. Just show up for the walk, hear the music and see the lights!

Free parking is available behind City Hall and in the Beverly Street city parking lot. The event is scheduled to run from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. EST time.

The light displays at City Hall, at the corner of Ainslie & Main Streets and on the river wall north of the Main Street bridge will be on nightly from December 22 to January 2.
