Metallica Ride The Lightning, Ride Coemar Infinity Wash XL Lights To The End Of The Line

MetallicaNothing else matters! Wherever they may roam, Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights carry the banner of performance pride, and the glowering Metallica 2008-2009 Tour is the latest notch-post to wave.

The show theme, echoing the coffin motif of the the 25-year-career heavy metal wizards’ latest release, Death Magnetic, boasts 8 2-ton lighting structures, courtesy of lighting designer John Broderick. “There are 56 Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights on these giant aluminum coffin structures,” he says.

“This time, we were going for a more simplified look for the arenas’ rectangular stage-in-the-round,” explains Broderick. Metallica and the bright, giant coffins are engaged by the electrified audience that’s constantly lit throughout the performance.

“The feel is tribal,” states Broderick, “in the sense that everyone is included. There’s not a bad seat in the house! So, that’s the job description for the look and mood Metallica wanted me to convey.”

Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights feature superior brightness, narrow to wide zoom ranges (5-84 degrees total) in one unit, and a ground breaking new color mix system able to achieve CMY and RGB colors (CMY-s, exclusive Coemar patent). With a beam shaper rotating and indexing at 360 degrees (exclusive Coemar patent) and electronically adjustable lamp power (700 W to 1450 W), the Infinity Wash XL lights bring today’s state-of-the-art concert over the brink of spectacular.

“I like the Infinity Wash XL’s moon flower effect, so I use it frequently,” remarks 30-year lighting and production design veteran Broderick. “It’s a soft-edge light that has hard-edge characteristics.” He’s been working with Metallica for most of the last 20 years. “They’re very smart people,” he notes. “They know what they want to see in a production: quality!”
