A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

ladyantebellum.JPGOLD LYME, CONNECTICUT – FEBRUARY 2009: In recognition that they are at the top of their craft, Sennheiser artists have been honored with over thirty Grammy nominations this year. Not only do the nominated artists span the diverse genres of contemporary music, they also form a continuum from the industry’s living legends to its freshest faces. Nominations to Sennheiser artists such as Snoop Dogg to Madonna gracefully balance Sennheiser’s domination of the Best New Artist category. Four out of the five nominees for Best New Artist sing and play into Sennheiser wired and wireless microphones and monitor with Sennheiser wireless personal monitors. The winners will be announced at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 8th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Sennheiser artists Jazmine Sullivan, the Jonas Brothers, Adele and Lady Antebellum are all vying for Best New Artist, arguably the greatest honor that can be given to a young musician or group. In addition, Lady Antebellum is up for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for their hit, “Love Don’t Live Here.” Country music’s unbridled enthusiasm for Lady Antebellum’s self-titled debut was stoked and amplified by the band’s electrifying live shows. Sennheiser microphones capture the vivacity of a Lady Antebellum show, from the SKM 5200 wireless microphones with Neumann KK 105 S and Sennheiser MD 5235 capsules for lead vocalists Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott, to the e 900 series wired microphones for drums, backing vocals, and guitar. Sennheiser ew 300 IEM G2 wireless personal monitors keep the stage free of sonic clutter and ew 372 G2 wireless instrument packs provide freedom of movement for guitarist Charles Kelley and the backing band.

In addition to Best New Artist, Jazmine Sullivan joins established Sennheiser artist Beyoncé with a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Beyoncé delivers all of her stunning performances with a top-of-the-line Sennheiser MD 5235/SKM 5200 wireless microphone. Sullivan is also vying for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Contemporary R&B Album, for a whopping total of five nominations!

Sennheiser artist Leona Lewis received a nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. In addition, her hit “Bleeding Love” is up for Record of the Year. On stage, Lewis wows her growing legion of fans with a Sennheiser SKM 5200/Neumann KK 104 S wireless vocal micro-phone and ensures that every note lands with precision and the right emotional nuance by relying on a Sennheiser ew 300 IEM G2 wireless personal monitor.

The majority of the duos up for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals feature a Sennheiser artist. In addition, Alicia Keys is nominated for Best Short Form Music Video, and Rihanna is nominated for Best Dance Recording. Rihanna made waves at the MTV Music Awards in September, where she performed “Disturbia,” the same song now up for a Grammy, in a black leather outfit that matched her personal Sennheiser SKM 5200 handheld wireless mic with MD 5235 and KK 104 S capsules.

Alternative rockers Kings of Leon earned three Grammy nominations, while hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg earned two. Both acts use Sennheiser on stage exclusively. In fact, the rapper’s gem-encrusted “Snoop Dogg” SKM 935 G2 wireless handheld is legendary. It arguably set the trend toward personalized microphones that has now captured the imagination of the industry’s most prominent vocalists and inspired Sennheiser’s hugely popular “mic skins.” Snoop Dogg is nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song. Kings of Leon are up for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song.

Sennheiser artists from the diverse genres of bluegrass, country, power pop, and Latin rock are also basking in the warm light of Grammy nominations.

Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder are up for Best Bluegrass Album; Jake Owen is up for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals; OneRepublic is up for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. It’s a Grammy great year for Sennheiser and the artists they support!
