Barix To Introduce Standalone Intercom Master Station At ISC West

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, February 23, 2009 — Barix AG, a pioneer in IP-based audio, intercom, control, and monitoring, is now shipping the Barix Paging Station PS16, a compact, multifunction master station for use in IP intercom, paging and voice over IP applications. Barix will exhibit the PS16 to the security industry for the first time at ISC West, taking place from April 1-3, 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth #5144).

The Barix Paging Station PS16 has Barix’s modular Audio over IP technology at its core, delivering reliable IP communications, and integrates a variety of professional features to create a fully-functional, standalone master station for security applications. The PS16 connects directly to a facility network and can communicate with other PS16 stations or Barix Audio over IP devices, as well as IP-enabled microphones, speakers, amplifiers or intercom panels spread over a large area. This makes it ideal for distributed intercom, monitoring, or paging systems in security applications, where voice communications from one-to-many points is a critical requirement.

The standard PS16 iMaster application offers a variety of key features, including: group call, public address broadcast, per location audible call identifier, remote relay operation and unattended mode operation, where operators can easily and quickly record an unattended message for automatic answering of calls when the central station is unmanned. Built by MS Neumann Elektronik in Germany, a Barix OEM, the Barix Paging Station PS16 features a flexible gooseneck microphone, a one-watt speaker, a 2×24 character backlit LCD, and 16 user-definable push buttons with LED indicators that can be scaled using Barix expansion modules to support larger installations. Power can be supplied using PoE via the network cable or with a conventional wall plug.

The software application on the PS16 is shipped with source code, so the functionality can be adapted to the customer needs should the user require a bespoke system rather than the standard intercom application. The built-in intelligence and full programmability of the device enables systems integrators and end users to simply create PC-Free applications including live IP intercom and paging, automated playback of stored messages, SIP-capable phone communications, and desktop intercom communications. The lack of any PC or server requirement simplifies the integration process, increases reliability, and further reduces costs for the end user.

“The Barix Paging Station PS16 merges the flexibility and reliability of Barix Audio over IP technology with a true master station device that integrates all of the crucial elements of today’s intercom communications platform,? said Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO and Founder of Barix AG. “The all-in-one design reduces complexity of integration and cost-per location, and Barix’s PC-Free approach eliminates cost, energy use and reliability issues that are common with server-reliant audio distribution systems. Systems integrators and programmers can also modify the PS16 functionality to their custom specifications using Barix’s flexible ABCL coding language if the flexible, configurable standard software does not fit the desired application.?

All Barix products are inexpensive, low-power devices that are scalable to the growth of the operation; offer reliability through a PC-FREE design with no moving parts; and serve as a flexible platform for integration into virtually any operation requiring audio transport and delivery. Barix also offers its programmable BCL standard open to all customers to easily tailor applications for specific needs. Local control, audio relay, and low-latency streaming are a few examples of custom programs using Barix’s BCL software environment.
