Major Electro-Voice installation at Chilean soccer stadium

estadio_german_becker.jpgThe recently renovated Estadio Germán Becker (Temuco, Chile), one of Chile’s finest sporting venues, is the latest in a series of major South American stadiums to be fitted with a large scale, state-of-the-art Electro-Voice sound system.

ProSound Ltda. of Viña del Mar, Chile designed the system, which was installed by CMV Ltda. and comprises EV Sx600 PiX dual element/single enclosure weather-resistant line-array loudspeakers. Designed specifically for stadium-type environments, and proven around the world in Olympic and World Cup soccer stadiums, this marks the first major Sx600 installation in Chile, and the first installation of its size to be performed by a Chilean company.

“We are also particularly proud to report that this is the first time that an audio project of this caliber has been implemented by a Chilean Company,? says Ruben Vedugo Gruss, General Manager, Prosound Ltda. “Most other projects in Chile are being carried out with far lower budgets, using lower quality equipment. The Sx600 is a unique product, designed specifically for this application. Its level of sound quality, intelligibility, and coverage is simply amazing. I’m thrilled to show it off on a stage alongside the Women’s World Cup.?

The 18,250-seat stadium’s renovation, which in addition to a stunning sonic upgrade included adding seats, a roof over the stands, VIP seating, and removal of a running track to bring fans closer to the field, played a large role in its selection as one of four host stadiums and cites – Temuco, Chillan, Santiago de Chile, and Coquimbo – for the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Nov. and Dec. 2008.

The new stadium was officially inaugurated on November 5th, 2008 with a Women’s World Cup soccer warm-up match between Chile and Brazil. The first official match of the Women’s Soccer World Cup was played on November 10th. ProSound and CMV were congratulated personally by high-ranking officials from both the Chilean Government and FIFA.

“This stadium is completely state-of-the-art in this region of the world,? says Pablo Barrientos of ProSound. “It sets the standard for many installations to come in Chile and the rest of this region. The clients were very happy with the performance of the system, especially because the audience, the government, and the sports organizations were very satisfied as well. It’s safe to say that this Estadio Germán Becker stood up above the rest in this World Cup, and the audio was a definite factor.?

The stadium’s main PA comprises an arrangement of ceiling-mounted Sx600 PiX, angled toward the seating areas. A second, identical array of Sx600PiX at the stadium’s western end is positioned toward the pitch for field reinforcement where teams observe national anthems. A distributed system of EVID 3.2T and 4.2T ceiling speakers provide sound for the stadium’s various lounges and cafeterias and a series of ZX1i-100T loudspeakers deliver sound to the stadium’s halls and corridors. Nicolas Betancur, Inside Sales Engineer for Bosch Security Systems, Inc., Communications Systems Division in Latin America comments:

“This project once again demonstrates that we are the worldwide leader in stadium installations. The reliability of our products is a great tool for these types of system solutions. The realistic specifications of our products let designers, consultants, and integrators approach any project of this size with the utmost confidence. And because the region of Temuco is very rainy; the design of the EV Sx600 PiX also gave the customer the confidence that the speakers will withstand the elements for years to come.?
