Lencore’s Adaptive Equalization Technology Further Advances its Revolutionary Music Page Interface (MPI)

(WOODBURY, NY) Lencore Acoustics Corp., a manufacturer of commercial sound masking systems has added Adaptive Equalization (AE) technology to its Spectra i.Net™ Networked Sound Masking System and Music Page Interface. The importance of AE is to insure a uniform, intelligible, quality page and music signal over long cable runs and at every point within your system – whether you are at the first part of your system or the last part of your system.

This radical technology enables each sound generator (Operating Platform or OP) within the sound masking system to measure frequency line loss over total wire runs for the system and automatically make adjustments to compensate for frequency line loss ensuring that the frequency response is flat across the entire system for both paging and music. Whether your project is 10,000 square feet on one floor, or 1,000,000 square feet over multiple floors, clients are assured that the proper frequency intelligibility curve will be maintained.

Once the system’s initial installation is complete, the MPI board generates a system sweep and does not need to be repeated unless there are changes in wire lengths for the system’s cabling. All measurement values are saved in each OP. Therefore, even if the system loses power, the measurement values are saved in flash and are easily restored when new power is received. The sweep frequency range is from 20Hz to 20kHz and insures a complete broad band measurement.

The MPI board puts out the center frequencies for each band for 7 seconds; the OP then reads these center frequencies and measures their amplitude. If the amplitude falls below a certain level and there is dB loss, the OP’s DSP automatically adjusts to bring the frequency band up to match the originally intended frequency intensity. The Spectra i.Net™ paging and music feature also has an associated one octave band equalizer (10 bands) for complete control and intelligibility resolution and is managed after the sweep initialization is complete. The system does this for both music and page.

“Most adjustments for other systems are too broad, and only allow for very simple controls that compromise quality? states Jonathan Leonard, VP of Lencore. He goes on to say “We felt that the acoustical community desired a much more refined level of control with better audio resolution and now we offer this Adaptive Equalization technology to enable a much better level of quality of sound and control.?

The Adaptive Equalization technology is part of Lencore’s Spectra i.Net™ Sound Masking System with the MPI (Music Page Interface) component. The Lencore MPI provides the ability to program up to 99 individual zones for paging using standard DTMF tones through a single line telephone wire. The system can also be programmed for all call and emergency broadcast paging.

The Lencore Spectra i.Net™ System is an open platform system (per ANSI 709.1) and does not require any proprietary software to be installed.

When the MPI is connected to the Spectra i.Net’s central control device (i.LON®) programming can be set for up to 1.5 million square feet of space through a single device. The creation, modification, addition and deletion of zones or groups for paging and masking can easily be controlled through a standard browser via the i.LON®, the utilizing the included Lencore Sound Manager. In addition, volume and equalizer settings for paging and music can be programmed through the Sound Manager offering tremendous adjustments and control capabilities with unprecedented flexibility.
