Calypso Systems Unveils “School First? Foundation

calypso-systems-logo_2d28a9.jpgWOODBURY, MN, April 2009 — Hear Me! Hear Me! Calypso Systems, a leading developer of multimedia technology solutions for K-12 classrooms, announced the formation of the Calypso School First Foundation (CSFF). The Foundation embodies Calypso’s strong commitment to improving student achievement through thoughtful, affordable, and flexible deployment of integrated classroom technology.

Through technology grants, the Foundation will help transform classroom learning for all children and energize teachers and students alike to integrate technology into all aspects of the curriculum.

Recognizing the importance of hearing and being heard in the classroom, the Foundation’s first program — Be Heard School Grant — will provide school-wide sound-field reinforcement systems (up to 35 rooms per school) to three
K-12 institutions.

“21st century skills cannot be achieved without profound change in classroom, curriculum, and assessment tools,? said David H. Parish, Ph.D., president of Calypso Systems. “Technology needs to become an integrated part of teaching and learning. The goal of the Foundation is to foster and encourage transformation of classroom education by providing resources necessary to make the future a reality.?

A growing portfolio of independent research supports the performance improvements in classrooms where sound-field reinforcement systems are used, including improved attention, increased motivation and fewer special education referrals.

A former university professor, Parish recognizes the importance of hearing and being heard in the classroom and developed the Be Heard School Grant specifically to address concerns that cut across student populations.

“Classroom sound-field reinforcement is becoming increasingly important to K-12 education with growing evidence that lightweight, wireless teacher microphones help special needs children participate and be successful in the classroom, while leading to improved performance among all children,? said Parish, “We have witnessed the benefits when wireless teacher microphones are utilized in the classroom, and we want educators across the country to be able to realize that type of success in their own classrooms.?
